Probably have 50-55 round thru it. 6 shots today and bang obd blew left side off. I know there was no barrel obstruction as I saw the prior round take the head off a little yellow flower ( I’m good but I had a blue laser I was showing a freind).
Next shot was bang and my left hand thumb was numb from the side blow out. Not bad just red and maybe a little burnt.
I’ll call keltec Monday and find out the best way to create ticket to send it in.
Apparently I’m not the only one I found a few more online.
That cartridge was still quite far from being fully chambered based on the amount of brass outside the chamber.
What’s the thought? Tight chambers? Sticking firing pins?
Bolt slammed into fired out of battery case after. Every reaction gets equal and opposite reaction. Bolt was blown back hard and came back and slammed out of battery, side blow out, into chamber. Gun was working fine if I had to guess it was ammo related. I have the box still and more ammo from it. It shoots good with some stove pipes on a ruger 10/22.
I will send it in just like this so Keltec can look it over. They see this more than me.I’m just thankful that I had eye protection and nobody got hurt.
I love the pistol. Even though it went boom,I have faith Keltec will make it right.
I also have a pmr 30 with 800 rds down the pipe
They had a barrel problem and they sent a new one asap.
Glad you’re not injured.
Hope your thumb is okay. Yeah, it sounds like you’re not the only one with issues with that model.
I really REALLY want to like the P17 and buy one for myself. Then I see posts like this and it reminds me that my life insurance policy is paid up and I may piss off my wife too often… If she surprises me with one of these, something might be up.
Seriously though, I hope Keltec does you good and keep us in the loop on how things go. I’d like to know what they say caused this or if this particular incident is common or a one off.
I really like the pistol at first it felt like a toy super light. But it was extremely accurate and I had a blast (no pun intended) I got label to send back Keltec was great to talk to.I will update when i get it back what they say.here’s some more pics
I don’t hate Kel Tec, and i think they have some innovative designs, but that one is a hard pass. For only a bit more, there are half a dozen other, far higher quality, .22 pistols. Id absolutely NEVER put a can on it. I use that Federal Auto Match all the time in my suppressed .22 upper for my full-auto M16, and rarely have an issue. Walther and Ruger both make excellent .22s, and i cant recommend the Taurus TX22-series pistols enough. I have a Ruger MkIV Tactical, and the TX-22 Competition has completely replaced it as my favorite .22 pistol, especially with a suppressor!
Dropped it off at FedEx today finally on its way…
I’m going with ammo being the culprit.
Glad you didn’t lose a finger or eye,
following to see what happens next since I just bought one.
I been using cci and federal ammo, the manual recommended 40gn high velocity.
Got a notifcation of signature required fed x tomorrow…
Well it did not say what the cause was. They only put this in as to what was replaced.
Now I wish I pulled the ruptured shell case out
To see for myself what happened.Kinda let down but happy to get the pistol back like new.
Correctly reinstalled slide bushing?
I know a buch of people like Kel Tech. I have heard good and bad reports on their products. It seems like it is hit or miss on how well their firearms work. Right now I don’t have enough info to guess a on a culprit but I wish that Kel Tec would have been a little more forthcoming info on the problem . I have a Ruger 22/45 Lite, Sig P322 both customized and several Beretta model 71 handguns. All of the .22lr handguns that I have have had thousands of rounds through them and the only malfunctions were from neededing to be cleaned.
Any catastrophic failure like that would seriously erode my faith in it’s ability to function without attempting to kill me in the process.
