OK, you convinced me. 
Dude, think of it this way, you’ll get to see most of the beauty of the eastern US on that trip. will only miss the coast. You’ll cross the Eastern Continental Divide on I-26 about 20 minutes south of Asheville. It’s marked, just watch for it. IIRC it’s the first mountain with the truck lane after you get through Asheville, NC maybe the second. It’s a beautiful chunk of this earth, be careful, you may not want to leave. Now for some reason the I-20 corridor through Columbia gets ungodly hot during the late Summer. If you want to make an epic trip out of it, you could head over to Myrtle Beach after and take in the museum there (hopefully it’s open by then) drift on up to Topsail Island in NC and you’d get a chance to view the most beautiful beach on the east coast at sunrise. Or follow I-26 down to Charleston and get a chance to see The Battery and FT Sumter.

La Grotta in Buckhead.
I wonder if The Chastain Theater is still open there. The best show I saw there was Heart. One of the best bands I’ve ever saw live.
