The invention of the Shakespeare UglyStik

Long story short:

I go to church with Mr. Lindler. I went to see him today. He is the original patent filer of the UglyStik, the most popular fishing rod ever.

The story about it:

And the prototype he gave me for free. This was made early 1970s:

Should be in a museum probably. You have provenance, a great story and the guy who made it to back it up. You probably could get Chumlee from pawn stars to trade you a 1967 Maserati GT for it or something :rofl:

Just bought my son a Ugly Stik for his birthday and he absolutely loves it.

His shop was filled with 1-off prototypes as he experimented with fiberglass and graphite.

I have a couple Ugly Sticks… Kinda skeered they’ll be declared an “Assault Fishing Pole”.

GG,
Thank you for posting the article and prototype. Very cool history as I own several Ugly Stick fishing rods.
One image of what my Ugly Sticks have harvested.

You even have the matching bag.
Those trout sure do look yummy :yum:

@Jammo
They were very tasty!
Pan fied Parmigan & Herb crusted.
The bag was on sale at Wal-Mart $10-15 less than the local outdoor retailer.

Thanks now I gotta go raid the kitchen :smile:

Revenge for the gouda cheese dogs, :rofl:
@Jammo

Ohh that hurts😁

Next time you see him, ask him if he remembers Hilton Parsons

Will do.

Really cool story made even better by the personal connection. Thanks for sharing.
