I’m curious what others use. There is so much on the market today from this to that, blah, blah…
I still use Hoppes solvent and oil, brush and pads. It’s how I was taught as a kid and its still what I use to this day. Although I do have a Hoppes boresnake in .22 which is the most modern cleaning thing I have.
Shooter Lube solvent is pretty impressive. I use it with Bore Swabs to clean and my life is much easier as a result. After cleaning, it’s usually just a CLP wipe down all over and a little Shooter Lube oil on the major contact points (slides, bolts, etc).
I too use Hoppes products. Not because they are tested to work the best, but because it’s what I grew up using when first learning how to properly take care of firearms. Scent is the strongest sense tied to memory, and I still have awesome memories learning from my father.
There was a link here to some AR School guy about mixing Mobil1 grease and oil to a honey like consistency. I can’t find it on here or youtube anymore. I’d like to try it.
I actually always see a foaming cleaner at Walmart when I go. I’ve wondered if a foaming cleaner sprayed them wiped down in a receiver would be faster/easier, etc.
But I’m loaded up on Hoppes and not needing any cleaning supplies right now. Plus I’m cheap and use that money saved on PSA Daily Deals.
I actually have several packs of some cleaners and oils that are NRA branded, not sure exactly what they are as I haven’t gotten to them yet. Loads of patches we scored at the SHOT show back in the day and several OTIS kits. Again, haven’t gotten to them yet.
