So, many years ago, I took advantage of Open Carry since it didn’t require me to ask my state for a permission slip. Open Carry requires you to be much more situationally aware and to also be familiar with weapons retention techniques. Then, like now, I would avail myself of forums of my areas of interest. Long story short, after perusing several threads about members fending off attempts to grab their firearm, the one thing that occured to me was how hard, if not impossible, it would be to use my strong side arm to cover my firearm while trying to cross draw a folding knife from my strong side pocket. I then started carrying a second knife on my weak side very soon after to address this problem. Even though I, now, primarily CC I still carry a weak side knife for much the same reason, but also in case of my strong side arm is incapacitated in an emergency. For many years now my weak side knife has been a Kershaw Ripcord 3200. It’s a manual OTF that I carry point up, which means it draws out in a reverse grip deployment. I love this knife and it has been a part of my EDC for nearly a decade. Unfortunately, Kershaw no longer produces it, but they can still be found out in the wild.
So after all that my question is does anyone else carry a weak side knife and why?
I want to. My folder is strong-side, but it’s not going to present nearly as fast as I’d like. When I was wheelchair bound, I carried a short machete along my thigh and a cheap bait knife weak-side, clipped to the chair.
