Why the KS-47 BCG is different

There has been a lot of discussions here about aftermarket 7.62x39 AR BCGs being able to be just dropped into KS-47 builds. While you make get lucky and have that happen, remember that there are big differences between a 7.62x39 AR and the KS-47 and that means there are differences between the BCGs as well.

A 7.62x39 AR is meant to feed from an AR sized magazine. This means the lugs of the bolt and the bolt carrier are milled to go between the feed lips of an AR sized magazine. These dimensions are different from the ones needed to clear the feed lips of your standard AK magazine. For this reason PSA has designed a “hybrid” bolt carrier and reprofiled the lugs of the bolt to increase the feeding and reliability of the BCG.

As you can see here PSA has chamfered(rounded) the lug below the extractor and next to the ejector.

They also have removed material from the bottom of the bolt carrier to narrow it’s profile. The one on the left is a PSA hybrid BCG.

These changes mean that with out modification a standard 7.62x39 bolt will not work/ work as well. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info.

PSA really needs to address the issue of not being able to purchase spare/extra
back up bolts. It would be nice if they spent as much time supporting the products
they already make, as they spend developing new products. I know their focus is on the AK47 market, but come support the products people have already bought.
The KS-47 has the potential to so much more than a range toy.
