Any chance of getting a 22 TCM upper anytime soon? To an avid reloader it looks like a ballistic dream on my favorite platform. I like the idea of getting 2/3rds the 5.56 velocity with 1/3 the powder and lots of bullets from a Corbin .224 swage kit and cut .223 cases. Any thoughts or experiences?
while im not able to discusss anything regarding 22tcm because i have never shot it, i did want to welcome you to the forums. so Welcome! thanks for coming to the forums and we hope to see you around a lot.
They are great. Here’s a 8.5" I have run on both a 9mm lower and a Mil Spec lower. Upper is from thearguy.com
robholland1911, does the ARGuy do barrels or just complete uppers? Have you checked the velocity out of the 8.5"?
He will do barrels or complete uppers. The complete upper will come with a BCG, which for reliability has some machine work done to the bottom to allow it to pass through the feed lips of a 9mm mag. This is not a blowback gun it is a DI system and uses a modified Mil Spec BCG. The chamber pressure of the TCM is to great for direct blowback and will bulge the barrel. I have used 9mm lowers with this upper, but it will require you to remove the ejector from the lower. Since the ejector is also the mag stop, mag over insertion can be an issue( though I did find that a zip tie around the magazine could be used as an external stop). Right now I am using CMMG’s 9mm conversion mag kits for their radial delay system( they don’t come with the molded ejector), but have found I need to use heat gun and slightly reshape the feed lips for the bottle neck of the 22TCM9R case.
I should also note that, while this barrel will chamber both 22TCM and 22TCM9R all I have run is 9R. I don’t know if these set ups would feed 22TCM. I think he said Colt stick mags would run 22TCM.
Unfortunately, I have never checked speed. Hope this helps.
Thanks, Rob, that’s a lot of good info to get me started. I had already contacted the ARGuy and thought if I could just get a barrel, I could do it cheaper and get what I want. In addition to playing around with reloading the cartridge to develop a wider ballistic range, I was toying with the idea of a single cartridge to span the ballistic range between taking small game and personal defense; with the additional objective in developing cheap downloads for plinking. Have had marginal success with downloaded .223, down to subsonic, but the case is too big and the pressure too enigmatic. Hoping to capitalize on that small case…thanks a lot for the info.
@thorseneavivace I know the topic is a couple of years old, but have you advanced in your adoption of .22 tcm to ar platform?
I had seen ready to use uppers now (but no personal experience) Complete AR15 Upper- 22 TCM 8.625"" Barrel, 7.2" Mlok - KAK INDUSTRY
