Just curious if A: anyone here has experience running 7n6 in their 74s and B: If PSA is planning on producing their own 5.45 ammo. I’m gonna get a 74 (as soon as the one I want becomes available again) and I have a crap ton of 7n6 but I’d rather not, exclusively, run corrosive ammo. Thoughts?
Good morning and welcome to the forum
@johnathanhighlander
I have an arsenal 74 and ran 7n6 through it back when it was easier to find. No problems with it but I made sure to clean before storage each use Since that ran out it has been fed almost exclusively silver bear steel and the rare few rounds of vmax when hunting thin skinned game. Has been great with everything.
I’m also looking forward to aac 5.45; reserves from Before Times continue to dwindle.
Run it. Just clean weapon thoroughly immediately afterwards.![]()
I’m very much looking forward to the PSA 5.45x39 being available too. I’m got a Tantal (a good one) and can’t wait to pick up some more ammo for it.
I’m curious if the twist rate will “over stabilize” the round causing keyhole issues (I run my rifles suppressed 9 outta 10 times so it’ll definitely be something I’ll have to check on before doing so). IIRC the standard twist rate was 1:8 and not 1:6.5. Then again…we’ve come a long was since the 70s
. The day PSA starts selling their own 5.45 is the day I’ll be buying it in bulk again!
I always was told and understood that just about any and all 7n6 ammo had corrosive primers. So, in the before times, back in the long gone olden days of pre-2008 and Obama era, when I could grab a tin of 7n6 for $45 bones. I would shoot the HELL out of it, and always hosed it down with a couple fresh bottles of water before leaving the range. Never had a rust issue. That’s just my experience with it tho.
Why doesn’t AAC make 545/39 ammo for PSA?
It’s very sad to see steel cased 545 going for more than decent brass 223/556. step it up AAC/PSA
If i read correctly, I do believe that PSA will be pumping out 7.62x39, 5.45x39, and 7.62x54R later this year. The moment they do, myself and many others, I suspect, will be buying it in bulk.
PSA have made multiple statements saying that 5.45x39 is tooled up, currently running and producing, and will be out soon.
Let’s gooooo!!! My Galil needs food
I’m considering the AKM 74 now that the prices are starting to get more normal
Same here dude, that plumb is looking ![]()

anyone heard an update on a release of ACC 5.45x39mm ?
Let’s goooo!!! For real what is the hold up? I’m not buying steel cased wolf for 50 cpr. GTFO
AAC, let’s go. Every other caliber you’re making is already in a flooded ammo market. Make what we need. DO IT
More 300blk
More 556
Everyone has this caliber. LETS GO 545/39!!!
Enough with the9mm and others that everyone has in stock. WE NEED 545
Any updates on 5.45 x 39 availability? I’m seriously considering selling my PSA 74 if someone doesn’t either start producing domestically, or an alternative importer doesn’t present itself. I love my 74, but there’s no point in owning a rifle I can’t use due to no ammo.
Don’t do it man, keep that 74 at the back of the safe and keep an eye out for some AAC 5.45x39 coming to market sometime this year. The 7.62x39 will of course be First, but shortly after the 5.45x39 will come shortly after
Are there any updates on the release of palmetto’s 5.45x39 ammo?
Is it going to be brass, steel or both casings? A lot of ranges just don’t like steel anything.
I’ve wondered about that myself (in X39 though). Their ranges don’t allow steel case.
Welcome.
