Any updates would be appreciated guys. I really want to shoot my 74 but not if ammo will never be available. I know an importer in Florida is advertising that it’s on the way, but I we want and need domestic!!!
It will be ready when the line is done. Jamin has said he hopes in September (for x39) but no definitive date.
How many rounds (approx) is the first line? And X 39 which do you mean? 7.62 or 5.45?
Idk and 7.62x39 will be first.
Tick, tick, tick, tick…10/25/2023…still nothing.
They never give a hard date. They hoped to have it up and running in Sept/early Oct. They may have it running and are building stock so they can sell it. I havent heard a recent update.
Because once it hits the site - KABLOOIE!!!
Gone.
I’ll gladly be part of making it go “out of stock” ![]()
November rain…still no ammo in either caliber. Any update would be greatly appreciated.
Update from Jamin on 11/15:

Jeez, if that’s the best he can do………………….WE’LL TAKE IT!!! ![]()

22lr coming hopefully 2025. 6.8spc and 350 legend are a part of the plan also.
So any update on 5.45x39? Are they still planning on making it?
Yes, they havent started on that line yet to my knowledge.
Halfway through 2024 and still no 5.45 ammo to feed the PSAK74…
This was purchased with the assumption there would be affordable and available ammo coming from AAC.
PSA - can you please give us a real answer besides “sometime in the future” as I will also go grey, retire and die sometime in the future but the 74 might as well get sold if the wait is much longer for freedom pellets to feed it.
There is no answer to how long it takes to set up an ammo line from scratch. X39 is out in steel now so that is a positive. Jamin has said he wants to add 10 more calibers but it will take 2+ years.
the 74 I picked up from PSA is my favorite rifle to shoot. The recoil impulse is almost zero, the accuracy has been better than expected, and the fit and finish have impressed me. It’s just disappointing that there is not ammo availability because I’m not going to us my 7N6 as range ammo anymore. If they produced the caliber and had it widely available, I already would have gone through several cases most likely as a singular user. I love that PSA is continuously trying to be innovative, however, I think maybe it’s less about the difficulty of setting up an ammo line and more about the company having so many projects on the books that all require people and money to run that they have lost focus on some things in favor of others and for the end user like me in this case who has been hearing for a long time that 5.45 is coming… it’s hard not to wonder if it would already be here if not for the 20 other projects that are all demanding resources too. I also understand it’s a business and they are going to prioritize what makes them the best return on their limited resources. Just using this forum to hope someone sees this at PSA and considers how many 5.45 rifles they sell compared to how little 5.45 is out there
This is completely off base. PSA is spending $100million on the ammo plant and your post basically says 5.45 is the only ammo they should make.
Its not easy setting up an ammo line. Its not easy building your own primer plant. Its not easy building your own private road between the two so that you buypass federal law on transporting explosives.
Furthermore, 5.45 isnt a super popular caliber. Are you complaining to Remington Ammo? Ammo inc? Winchester ammo? Nope. You make an ungrateful post because PSA isn’t making the caliber you want (yet). Come on now…smh.
Guitar Guy hit it on the head. Furthermore his above quote of JJE from november of 23 tells you a lot of information.
in the next 2 years now (since half a year has gone by, and we just now have steel 7.62x39 out, they will be working solely on 6.5 grendel. UNTIL YOU SEE 6.5 GRENDEL from AAC, THAT IS ALL THEY ARE WORKING ON. Once 6.5 grendel is released, you have the remaining 2 years time that they will be bringing 8 more calibers of ammo online. If you need a timeline, look for 2025, or 2026 before you have your 5.45 at the EARLIEST. until then, consider it to not exist.
Thank you.
I started the statement by saying out of my collection their 74 is my favorite rifle to shoot. The 103 has also been a pleasure as has the AR rifle and pistol variants. The dagger has had some problems running but PSA’s customer service was quick and I need to try out the replacement part they sent to hopefully remedy the issue there. Not saying PSA/AAC are a bad company doing anything in bad faith and I’m also not pretending to be as informed as you are either regarding the plant production, etc. Simply attempting to use my voice on the public forum to hopefully draw some attention to it in hopes that the caliber has greater demand than what you claim. (Which is one of the main reasons forums like this exist, to air out frustrations, state criticism, get informed, and leave knowing more than you came with)
And no, not complaining to Remington or Winchester but I also don’t buy their stuff like I do PSA (Because I would rather support PSA and don’t just talk them down all the time, quite the opposite really I talk them up often). I appreciate the repost that GCOperator included, I didn’t have that information and having some semblance of a timeline somehow makes it feel better even if it’s still a long way. Perhaps I’m used to things happening on a faster timeline in my career despite the scale of the project, and I’m projecting results I expect to see in large gas plant construction and intrastate pipelines and the difference in industry from energy to weapons and ammunition simply makes the timelines much different. My first comments were snarky due to a combination of some texas whiskey, a stressful day, some frustration, not being informed, thinking there’s humor in what I put into text when there’s not, and just genuinely missing shooting my favorite rifle. Didn’t mean to cast any offense towards PSA or anyone who loves their products, I’m just the impatient asshole who loves their stuff and wants to run it all the time.
