5.7 Rock firing pin

Can anyone shine some light on how to remove the firing pin from the Rock? Thanks

If you remove the rear slide cover plate, the firing pin spring and detent will come right out. The polymer housing that holds the stamped firing pin can be tapped towards the rear. It’s a 2 piece housing that is split in half. Here’s a deconstructed picture:

Thanks mattbbb14. The tapping part is where I stopped. Didn’t want to tear anything up. Guess I’m used to Glocks. So what tools did you use to tap and what did you tap on? Had trouble with 5.7 Saturday…first time firing it. Federal ammo …it would fire but not eject. Then one time it didnt fire a seated live round so I racked the slide and out came the casing, the bullet AND the powder. I didnt clean it new out of the box so now I’m completely going thru it to see if there’s an issue. Been trying to find a full disassembly with pics but no luck. I may have to make one.

So that is most likely an issue with the ammunition itself. The federal ae57 is notorious for having problems like that. The bullets are held in the casing with just a smidge of adhesive. They’re not mechanically crimped or anything so it can cause problems like what you’re describing. Not to say your guns in perfect condition or anything. There might be a problem but it sounds like the ammo to me.

Read the reviews and look at the pics in the PSA site about the 5.7 AE rounds. I’ll NEVER buy those. Literally over a year of bad reviews all showing the bullet fall out the brass, powder and all. Totally ridiculous.

I have not been as unfortunate as the gentlehuman from California, but I do have an occasional failure with that ammo.

Thanks for the info on Federal ammo in 5.7. I had not heard that and what a shame. Federal has always been an upstanding and excellent ammo manufacturer. I’ll try some FN.

Have sent a few hundred of them (Fed AE) downrange and have yet to see a failure. YMMV

I’ve not had issues because I passed on that ammo. Just read the reviews and look at the pics thou. I completely passed on that!

I don’t have failures often enough to not buy it but they do happen occasionally. I’ve put at least 500 through the rock without any issues.

LOL, maybe they put all the bad in one box. Now that would irritate me.

Yeah i did a 5.7 ar pistol build, used some federal and on every other round the bullet would detach from the casing when cycling. I ended up breaking down the 5.7 ar and used parts on other builds. Im about to used the left over federals in the 5.7 rock for the first shots and see how everything goes… If it does the same thing I guess we just need to cough up the money and purchase some FN rounds instead of the cheaper federals

The AACs have been coming around every couple days lately. You just have to watch and be quick.

I Just shot 6 rounds of what i thought was a crap box of federal ammo through the rock 5.7 and everything went perfect… I think with 5.7 ar the BCG has to much weight coming forward on the non crimp federal ammo causing the ammo to not function properly… This is just speculation based off 5 rounds malfunctioning through a 5.7 AR vs 6 rounds through a 5.7Rock and those few rounds is nowhere enough to make a definite conclusion

I’m less than 15rds. into my Rock but I have found
a group at 50ft. moved the 507k into that center
and I’m in there for now with the Federal/Fiocchi
40gr. I don’t anticipate more Federal purchases so
about 35rd. left and have another slide on the way.
Ejection pattern is over the right shoulder 4 o’clock
and about 6 ft away… little bit of primer splash but all
ignited.

Shots 1, 2, 3, & 4 out of my new Rock all failed to fire…
took slide down degreased and haven’t had another,
even shot those earlier misfires.

When i get a chance Ill get another box of federal and do a mag dump with the first box that i had issues with and come back with results

I have had 3 rocks and used AE exclusively for the first several hundred rounds in each Rock, because they were far cheaper than others then.
No issues at all and still use the AE without hesitation.

I have also use blue tip FN and it works as well.

Although on the newer rock with only a few mags fired. The first time I used the fn197. The first round in mag didn’t feed( may have been me) and one ftf in that mag as well Next mags no issues and the 2 did fire when reloaded.

The federal ammo really sucks in my 57 banshee will not work at all as far as I’m concerned this junk

Just happened to realize today the 5.7 Rock is the only 5.7 handgun that is striker fired. All others have internal hammer.
Correct me if I’m wrong - FN, Ruger, PSA, S&W are the only ones I know about.
