Rock Review since I haven't got an invite

After doing a ton of research I was looking for a 5.7, I had the Ruger 5.7 on my wish list here. I needed something soft shooting and yet effective. I’m getting older and my GF / SO whatever you want to label her as weighs 90-100 soaking wet and has essentially no handgun experience… Meh y’all don’t need to know anymore than that. I read the threads on the Dagger break in and caught @GuitarGuy 's post on using snaps for the first 100 pulls. TBH after 20rounds I was extremely concerned. I feel like the ejector was tearing the crap out of the snaps. An inordinate amount of debris/shavings from the snaps. To be fair it was first time using snaps and really didn’t know what to expect. The trigger was very gritty. 20 pulls disassemble, re-clean and lube. Field strip and clean… easy-peasy. In fact the easiest I’ve ever owned. Approx. 10 minutes stripped, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Now for the good part, go to the Grenville store, get the free hour of range time with my son. Just iron sights at that point. My son was destroying the paper out to 25 yards. Zero, I mean ZERO issues through the first 100 rounds. I’ve never had that happen with any firearm.

My 5.7 Rock, and even my dagger, just keep getting better and better with the factory triggers.

Hand fit/feel nothing short of amazing. Trigger? I’m extremely pleased with it already.

Feels better than both the Ruger and the FN to me. I was nervous to take the leap without laying my hands on one. Very, VERY pleased that I did. Accuracy? My son did not miss a silhouette @ 25 up until he got cocky and mentioned “ear piercing”. LOL

Do you know if they set the sights to “combat sight picture” or the other one I can’t think of the name of? I was shaking too much from some medical crap and no rest shooting to figure that out without question. Aim point just above the three dots or behind the center dot?

That i am not sure on. Mine shoots a hair high (i.e. a hair over where i aim), and i just bought tru glow night sites for it that are a hair taller. Havent installed them yet.

OK,
Back to the Greenville Store range today. The Holosun had time for the loktite to fully cure. I’m still struggling with some medical crap and struggling with shooting two eyes open. I was stabbing the trigger and missed the paper 3 out of five in one group. When I calmed down after letting my son shoot it a bit, I clipped the x and all 5 inside 2 rings, I did drop down to elbow support for that one. No adjustments to the Holosun, they didn’t have the tool at the range and I forgot mine in the box at home so it was OOB shooting. My son however, 5 out of 5 center ring center mass and 5 out of 5 head shots 25 yards, standing, no support. Broke in the 2 new mags I bought. I think I’m gonna go back tomorrow and have them zero the Holosun. $10 to have it done by a pro, chicken feed. Well on the downside of approaching 500 rounds ZERO malfunctions. I am really liking it. Only disappointment, my son sent a half a box of the Hornady blue tips downrange @ the range. He did prove they are just as reliable and accurate as the AE rounds. All shots taken 25 yards.

Why are you upset about the blue tips being sent down range? They’re a plinking round.

Once I get to where I feel I have reasonable reserve amounts of a few different options on hand they will be but for now the AEs are for plinking. Maybe nickel and diming but I’m cheap like that.

I’d recommend getting some SS198LF or at least ss195lf if you are intending the ammo for SD. :+1:

I have some of the 198s, I wonder about the shelf life of them though being lead free. Am I correct?

No. There’s plenty of videos of people firing off decade old Lead-free ammunition.

Lead free primers as well?

Yes, the FN ammo is lead free all the way through. Can’t speak for other brands or manufacturers but the FN ammo has held up for a long long time despite all of the armchair chemist claims that it wouldn’t.

I wonder if it has to do with the lacquer coat? Seal the case/primer better?

You know I’m not sure. That’s a good question.
