Rock 5.7 reliability issues

I finally got my 5.7 to the range today and I had a handful of issues. I’m thinking its a magazine issue because with about the first 5 to 7 rounds there would be a lot of failures to feed/eject but after that I could get the rest of the mag to run fine. Anyone else have any issues and is there any ideas on how to fix it? If its a simple fix I would prefer to do fix it myself rather than contact Palmetto to try and figure the problem out.

Get a box of snaps and dry fire the crap out of it.

Is that something you’ve done and it’s worked things out? I figured it might just need some breaking in. I shot 150 rounds so I was hoping the break in would be done.

What ammo are you using? Have you tried switching it up?

Do you have the same issue if your mag is only partially full ?.

So far all I’ve run is the AAC FMJ. I was thinking next time I go, I’ll get a box of FN’s ammo and see if there’s a difference.

I loaded up my mag with 3 or 4 rounds and it worked fine yeah.

The Rock mags seem to have really stiff mag springs. Several posts mention it’s very difficult to load the last two or 3 rounds. Possibly you have some overly strong mag springs and with a fully loaded mag the unexpended rounds are exerting too much pressure on the slide for it to function smoothly which would cause failures to extract and load correctly…

Would keeping the mags loaded and stored maybe help that spring relax some?

Sounds like a good idea. Can’t hurt. Do both of your mags vcreate the same issue ?. Next time you shoot your Rock you might start adding rounds to the mags one round at a time until you get the problem. That will give you a more accurate picture of exactly how much tension is required for the loaded mags to cause the problem.

Yeah they both had the same issues. One was a little better than the other but still didnt run well with the first few rounds. Your round by round idea is really smart. I’m going to have to remeber to try that next time I shoot.

I believe the mags capacity is really more like 20, I know they state 23 but although that may so the first 3 are iffy imo. nice promo to state 23 but…another thing is mag QC, I number mine with paint pen and have one in particular that is unreliable also that one is very scarred up on each side probably mfg. out of spec. causing issues. Lubrication is very fussy won’t cycle if greased I now use just a few drops of light silicone lube.

Was wondering about this myself. I got my rock about a month ago and have been to the range with it 2x. Have about 125 rounds through it all Fiocchi fmj 40g. I ran 2 full mags and then 5-10 through several times. Below are some pictures of what I saw last time. I watched a YT video and those guys had issues with the Fiocchi ammo but not the Federal ammo.

Been loving my other psa purchases - dagger and ar in 300BLK. They habe been awesome and no issues!

Anyone else have issues with Fioccho 40g? Was super pumped and honestly a bit dissappointed with the multiple malfunctions.

Also for reference this was the video I mentioned where they had malfunctions with the fiocchi ammo but not the federal. I’m going to try some of that next time I go to thr range see if that sorts it out.

Fiocchi makes Fed AE as well. I’ve had mine on a steady diet of AAC and haven’t had issues. To be clear I didn’t have problems with Fed AE prior to AAC coming out and have never tied Fiocchi.

Same here. Fed and AAC have been gtg for me.

I was going to say - drop a Fiocci in a pile of Federal, or Vice-Versa - and I dare you to find it again. Same case, same bullet, and I pulled-down a couple - the powder looks exactly the same, and is within a grain or two. (I admittedly cannot say for certain the powder IS the same, only it LOOKS the same.)

:musical_score: one of these Cartridges is Exactly like the other… :notes:

:notes: Can you tell which one is the Same? :musical_note:

(Hint: I lost track of which was which, while taking the photos - so I don’t know either!)

I would bet Fiocchi doesn’t crimp their range rounds either.

I asked Tiger if he could tell me which one was which - and he didn’t know either.

Both appear to fit nearly the same in my Sheridan:

This one fits almost exactly the minimum chamber dimension step on the gauge:

This one almost fits down to the minimum Brass Dimension step on the gauge:

I went ahead and plunked a few others of both boxes, and got randomly between “B” and “C”, regardless of package branding.

Interesting…
