Will the Aero upper fit and function on a PA10 upper?
No offense, but did you mean will your AERO upper fit on a PA10 Lower ? ( Question title v. actual question )
While your AERO upper “may” fit ( front and back retaining pins )… some have, some have not. And you might have performance issues.
Since there are no MilSpec guide lines… every time I have tried a AERO upper on my various PA10 lowers, the BCG “axis” sits off center to the buffer tube “axis”, IE mine have had the AERO uppers BCG sit off center in the PA10 buffer .
IMHO this is less than ideal. It might still work…. but it might prematurely wear the buffer tube.
You might have other issues as well… bolt catch in a slightly different “height” and mag might also sit at a slightly different height. ( Mag feeding wise )
IMHO , the PSA PA10 uppers and lowers are your best bet.
I wish they would work well together , but PSA probably didn’t want “Patent” infringement issues. So they designed it just off by a little.
And sorry I didn’t answer sooner, I just saw this post.
There is only a guaranteed same manufacturer upper/lower fit for ar10s.
Thank you for your answer.
I am trying to build a more accurate .308AR and so far my PA 10 upper don’t seem to be up to the task. Various precision shooters believe that starting with a quality upper and building up will solve the problem. The best I can tell Aero is a good place to start, however I am more than willing to take your advice as well since you seem to be knowledgeable. What brand upper would you mate to the PA10 lower for accuracy or failing that what changes would you suggest to make to the PA 10 upper? I have plans to lap the interface on the upper with the barrel. There is a Ballistic Advantage 18 inch barrel on my bench and a Trigger Tech two stage adaptable trigger already installed. I have ASC AR-10 308 / 7.62x51 20-Round Stainless Steel Magazines because they have slightly more room for a longer OTB. I am already hand loading with a collet type die and annealing my brass. It seems that one weak point with the PA10 upper is that the barrel nut is too flexible and I don’t see a good way to fix that.
I would use a PA 10 upper only. I wouldnt worry about lapping it right away. Accuracy is far more dependent on the barrel, trigger, optic, and most of all the user. If you have a $1000 gun and a $50 optic, your accuracy will probably be junk.
And what do you mean the barrel nut is too flexible? The nut shouldn’t flex at all. Post up a Pic to help us out.
It makes me wish I had waited and bought a better rifle to start with. Mine like many others has had it’s share of problems, starting with the recoil/buffer system that is now equipped with Armalite tube, spring and buffer. That was better than the OEM set up that was too long out of the box.
I have the original PSA 12.5” and have never had an issue.
Im not understanding your issue with a barrel nut or with your buffer tube.
The trigger, and optic, have been covered but your advice about lapping runs counter to most long range shooters advice. As for operator error you are correct but I keep trying to improve.
It isn’t a particular issue with my rifle, it is just not an optimal design.
Which one do you have?
PA10, .308. It was a 20 inch barrel but with a new 18 inch BA barrel it is a pound lighter.
That doesnt really help. Does it have an FSB? Free float rail? Adjustable stock?
Their 20” rifles were plenty accurate. Ive seen them used for 300+ yards shots
Ive seen their 6.5 c version do the mile shoot at Clinton House Plantation…..
no.. you need a “dpms”cut lower, pa10 is “gen3” and only fits other “gen3” upper receivers. however they both use all the rest of the same parts..
Nope. Their uppers didn’t change. And PSA uses proprietary take down pins. By DPMS you mean round cut but not all round cut uppers will work with a PSA lower.
How many different ammo’s have you tried. ?
Your current barrel ( like all barrels ) “might” have preferences ammo wise.
Also… how many rounds through the barrel… it might need more break in.
This is a long thread… and some of the pics are gone, but if you scroll through it will show some ammo results… with the OEM PSA Nitrated barrel , the PSA OEM SS barrel… and ultimately a Criterion barrel.
It is now a Magpul rifle stock with whatever free float rail PA had stock, “plenty accurate” is a nebulous term, sub MOA is the standard at any range.
He’s using hand loads as mentioned above. That too, like you said, could be an issue. My barrel like 162gr 308s.
aero is dpms cut.. you could use a sabre ar10 lower…
My bad.. I missed that.
I would suggest trying some FGMM 168gr ( Not the CenterStrike version )
Mine will shoot sub-moa all day long. It kills deer at 300+ yards. It sounds like you want a full custom gun but for a price you are not willing to pay.
A BA barrel can get you there, but so can the PSA barrel. What optic are you using? And (again) post a picture of your rifle.
