I’ve put about 400 rounds of Barnaul 55gr HP BT in my 105 and having good luck. Last weekend I found some 60 gr FMJ Wolf performance mil-spec and noticed that I had a lot of rounds keyholing, The weird thing is it seems to key hole less, the further out the rounds go down range. At 20 yards, almost all of them keyholed. At 70 yards about 40% did. with that ammo. I know it shouldn’t re-stabilize, but that appears to be what it did,
Has anyone else had any issues with the 60 gr FMJ Wolf performance mil-spec? I’m going to try and round up some different types of 60 gr, 5.45 and see if the keyholing persists with different manufactures/types. With the 55gr Barnaul, I’ve never seen any issues.
I did see some of those, but some of those were with 223 ammo and AR type rifles. I look at them again.
I’m going to try and get some different types of Wolf, Red Army etc. all in 60gr and see if they keyhole as well. I was wanting to see if anyone else had similar experiences with a PSA AK-105, to gather additional data.
My 105 shoots Red Army (Tula head stamp) without an issue. I picked up some Monarch (Barnaul head stamp) from Academy that keyholes out of my 105. I keep meaning to pull a couple bullets and take some diameter measurements but haven’t got around to it yet. I’m assuming the projectiles with the Barnaul head stamps are probably undersized.
