AK-V Loose hand guard (SA-19)

Hello All!

I love my ak-v and would prefer to not warranty it. However almost certainly since I got it, I noticed the handguard has a wiggle. Since doing tons of research for it specifically. I’d like to know if there’s a reasonable home fix?

It appears to be a machining issue, as this handguard free floats. When I pull back on the retainer, the handguard is flush and won’t move. But taking it apart, I noticed the lever itself is somewhat loose, and there’s an indention on the barrel for the lever to sit in. The retainer itself also wiggles.

just an annoyance for spending $1100. I understand if it was a $500 purchase but for 11…

anyways, thanks in advance

Thats actually normal. Even my wooden handguard wiggles a little.

honestly if an AK doesnt rattle its not an AK.

But how would I go about snugging it up? I’ve seen people shim, I’ve kinda thought about running a sling around the platform back to itself, maybe even trying to bend the plate back so when the lever is in place, it’s tight.

You can try one of those things. Play with the plate and lever first.

Try to fashion up a shim first.

Bending parts is very permanent.

Steel doesn’t have a memory / spring back.

Maybe a little squirt of silicon clear caulking? Just enough to cushion it and less wiggle. Will not last I suppose but might work for a while.
