Kind of late to the party, I guess. I just discovered the dagger and I can see I’m getting ready to spend some money… Right now I’m trying to finger out All the different slide options. Looks to me like the differences between the slides are pretty much is just cosmetic. Except for the SWR Is this like a longer slide? I’m sorry this is probably all answered in the description but I’m kinda reading from a cell phone screen, And I think I’m missing something…
Oh also about the rear Sight position as related to the optic cut. Looks like it may either in the front or behind the optic cut. And is this available on all slides? Perhaps just depending on the production run. Or only available on certain slides ?
I have the SW4, SWR, and SW5 slides, those are my favorites. There is some weight savings with the SW5, but that’s not why I bought it. SWR/SW5 only come in RMR if I’m remembering correctly.
The Compact X is if you like a longer slide.
Regarding the iron sights, that is personal preference. PSA only offers rear sight forward on SW1 SW2 SW3 SW4 (with either RMR or Doctor cut)
There are too many combinations to try to address them on this forum. You will find in some of the different model slides that there will be Doctor and RMR optic cuts available and models that have the rear sight behind or in front of the optic.
I bought a Dagger frame paired with an AR-15 stripped lower on sale. I waited until I found one of the slides that I liked when it went on sale and purchased it. I now have a two tone (black frame and FDE slide) Dagger with RMR cut and rear sight rear, plus a threaded barrel for $249 before taxes and shipping on the slide. Magazines not included.
I understand the comment now - you have both options with those slides. As you say, sight location is personal preference. I prefer the rear sight rear for the longer sight radius when using iron sights. I haven’t purchased an optic yet. I had to wait several months for the rear sight option with RMR cut to come on sale.
I think the rear sight forward has its advantages, but gives it tacticool points mostly. Some say it helps with target acquisition… but in my honest opinion, you shouldn’t be running an optic if you need iron sights to assist. If anything, having it in the front stops clutter and eye confusion.
Going off topic, when people get red dots, I believe many train with looking at the dot. People should always train with looking past the dot, and not get tunnel vision.
If PSA came out with the SWR and read sights forward, I’d definitely buy it - mainly because it’d look cool.
Rear sight forward of optic allows you to use the rear sight to (one hand) rack instead of the optic itself, which should be your main sighting source. Don’t use it to rack if you can help it. Protects from casings, allows use of entire optic window as well.
Think of it like a front cap on a red dot. If the front is on, you can still make hits both eyes open. Can’t even see the dot if the rear cap is on. Same goes for iron sight position. Rear sight forward does look very funky without a red dot on though.
It’s my preferred, just wish they didn’t have the speed holes on those variants.
Hey buddy! Now this is what I was thinking of. also and maybe you know they showed a video in which the rear sight forward position blocked a ejected shell from hitting the optic! And I’m thinking I really don’t need a hot shell striking a nice expensive optic And I like something I can drag to cock without worrying about damaging the sight
Well JosPri I got to say I really liked the SW3 until I saw the SW4 no wait! I, I need the SW5. Hmmm
thank God there’s nothing here nickel plated I think she might notice shiny… Uoo all in Flat Earth? Well… oh sure, why not?
For better quality sights like Holosun, not really needed. But for cheaper ones like the Vortex Venom and others that people here like to use. Yes, the Venom is a cheaply made sight, even brass cases will damage the optic window. 2500 rounds in and it had numerous dings and scrapes from brass. I was careful with it because I knew the optic itself was not durable, still got damaged.
Holosun 507C, original version. Handled the rest of the 7500 I put through my gun, no damage to window. Just cosmetic scrapes from long term wear on the aluminum.
But I like the look of rear sight forward, and the other advantages it brings. I can still ping steel at 100 with the shorter radius too, so no disadvantage on my end.
You’re getting some good input…they helped me! And then; get ready, the addiction begins! My first purchase was a smoking deal last year. Pistol, 10 15 rnd mags and a nice range bag.
I have had zero issues with both, very good shooters. I followed all of the post’s about this pistol mainly breaking it in. Worked for me. Happy shopping!
The full size Dagger’s right now are just the S versions, meaning a shorter, 19 sized frame. So a G19L slide would be what you want for that. You need either a G19L barrel for a Gen 3, or a Gen 5 G17 barrel.
To elaborate. The Gen 3 Glocks all used a different barrel/locking block lug for each size of gun. The Gen5 double stack guns (non slimline) all use the same, which also happens to be the G19Gen3 pattern. So any barrel G19 up to G34 sized will drop into a Glock 19 Gen 3 or compatible gun.
