AR-15 22LR Upper

Planning on building a dedicated 22LR A1 slick side upper. When I can find the parts lol. Haven’t fired the Rise trigger yet in any configuration so I’ll have keep that in mind.

I purchased #516446934 back in early 2019 and couldn’t be happier with it. Have run some 30,000 rounds through it and with the exception of breaking a firing pin (which PSA quickly replaced when contacted) at around the 25,000 round mark, this upper has been flawless. Definitely more accurate than some other brand uppers, solidly built, wish I’d have purchased at least one more, have recommended to friends and unfortunately they haven’t been available…if you guys do decide to make another run of them, I’m sure they’ll sell quickly…

Welcome and thanks for the feedback. I am one of those in line waiting for the current crisis to be over so I can purchase one!

Back when I was able to buy 22 at 3-4 cents per round, it was a great way to kill an hour or so after work, unfortunately I haven’t done any serious shooting since early 2020 when everybody started panicking and rounds got scarce…

I understand that at the end of the day,the $ rules any decisions regarding product manufacturing/sales but, I really hope PSA will come back with the dedicated .22 AR upper. At least take it off the website until you do. It gives us poor saps false hopes.

It might even be a good time to reintroduce it, since .22lr is a little more affordable to shoot now than most… when you can find it.

CMMG makes a 22LR conversion kit that is drop in. Just do that. PSA has them some times.

I purchased a PSA 16" .22 LR 1:16 NITRIDE 15" LIGHTWEIGHT M-LOK UPPER WITH BCG & CH in January 2019. For once I was ahead of the curve because I train 95% with 22 LR. I bought a BoonyPacker magazine adapter so I can run M&P15-22 magazine in my normal AR15 lower assembly and it has worked great, including bolt hold open after last round fired.

There is no way one of those CMMG conversion kits will ever be as accurate as a dedicated upper with a .22 barrel. THAT is why I want a .22 upper.

Maybe PSA will come out with a 22LR build kit with all the components included that you assemble yourself? I’ve been waiting for these upper to be on sale again for years!

Be careful with triggers/ hammer springs in the .22lr ar15 platform. To heavy a spring rate can make conversions and possibly dedicated uppers have hammer follow due to a short stoke. They will pick up a new round but not catch the hammer. Always check a new build with 1 rd then 2 or 3 until you know it’s function is correct. You don’t want any surprises with a full mag.

Just getting into the AR stuff. Looking to get a 15-22 without breaking the bank. Any suggestions? I know the less expensive ones are tough to find right now. Would a build be a better option?

Yes I’m curious to see how my Rise Armament trigger will perform with the 22 upper, of course I have to build it first.

I’ve got a M&P 15-22 I bought from PSA I’ve been really pleased have functioned perfectly for me.

I have 3 I’m just not allowed to use Palmetto as a private broker site…

I bought them back when we still lived in a Free Country…

Was looking a few years back to get a dedicated 22 upper. Seems like for a while there were a few good options, perhaps Tactical Solutions among the best. PSA has them occasionally, but more recently hardly any options seem to be available. Read some good things about the CMMG conversion kit…and my neighbor who shoot a lot had great things to say about it, so I recently pickup up that kit with 3 mags for under $200. We’ll see how that goes!
