Just saw this pop up.
It’s unfortunate that PSA isn’t planning on producing anymore 22 uppers for a while. Of course I totally understand in today’s environment. I’m sure the demand for AR15 uppers is higher than ever.
I picked up one of the PSA 22 uppers a few years ago and I really love it. I also got the Boonie Packer mag adapter to use the M&P15-22 mags. It really makes the gun run well.
I highly suggest people buy a PSA 22 upper if/when they ever produce them again.
Got a couple buddies of mine that have fired my PSA and they’re waiting for them to make another run. Perhaps if the mad dash for all things AR ever passes, these guys will get the chance to make another batch, mines been flawless…
I wonder if PSA would be willing to take orders? I’d be willing to put down a deposit if I knew I’d get one at some point.
Unfortunately we don’t do pre-orders. It is a good suggestion though. I just have no eta.
Guess I’ll just have to be patient. You could propose such a thing the owner…I’d let you have all the credit.
I’d be in line for a PSA .22 upper for sure! Seems like it would be seller.
I’m all for options, especially when it comes to training, and .22 is a great training round, of course. I do hope that PSA can offer a dedicated upper for this.
However, I have found that the conversion kit from CMMG is quite adequate for most of what I want to do. I do have an M&P 15-22, and it is fine, but I wanted more.
Most AR configurations should start with the barrel, so I picked up a .233 Wylde 16" 1:9 pencil barrel from Midway (AR Stoner brand), a featureless upper that a friend liked less than he thought he would, scrap bin Mil-spec trigger from a local accurizing shop, controls from my parts bins filled mostly from Unbranded AR, PSA lower (I’ll replace it with a $42 polymer one when they finally arrive from Tennessee Arms), a used Magpul K grip $8 at a gun show, a $28 ultralight handguard from OhHunt, and an MFT Minimalist knock-off stock off of Wish (Yes, you read that correctly).
I still needed the conversion kit, so I waited around for several months to find one under $200. Eventually, there was a LGS which had one, plus three mags, for $195, so I was off to the races.
It’s not particularly accurate. Maybe 4" groups at 50 yards, but this thing has just a few specific purposes. To plink around with, to train new AR shooters, to be light, and to be relatively inexpensive. So far, I’m happy with it.
I picked up a BCG for a decent deal from PSA ($139, maybe?), and found a cheap buffer (and tube) set for under $30. Gas tube and block from Unbranded AR for under $20, and now I have a lightweight 5.56 I can hand to someone if the need arises.
I gave up a lot on perceived (and maybe actual) quality, but at about 400 rounds in, I don’t see anything wrong with this setup so far. I didn’t do the specific math, but I’m pretty happy with the cost I put in to set up what is effectively two different rifles.
love my dedicated AR22 so much fun with silencer
i run the CMMG conversion with the Black Dog mags, works great
PSA .22lr upper would be great. Current AR22 models are either OOS or have too many proprietary and/or plastic parts for my wants.
Therein lies the problem. I want accurate, thus I want a dedicated .22 upper.
CMMG makes .22lr barrels for ARs but they’re pricey. No clue if any are in stock. Just need that, mags, and the bcg.
Conversion in stock now on PSA

Admitted. But it’s not a PSA! We’re loyal to PSA.
welcome to the forums @AustinTracer2A
I’m down with PSA loyalty…so make a .22 upper already!
Until then, CMMG. I like what Twoehh did. Going an easier route—my start is a blem PSA lower (OD green MP), now just need a nicely priced upper sans BCG.
CMMG has a banner at the top of their page. Click it and it says they don’t have stuff “in stock” . Made to order. Goes with what I hear about people waiting 8 months or more for an upper.
THey have in the past. it just sold out fast. like everything else if memory serves me correctly…
Yes, they have made them, I stated that earlier…but I get haven’t seen one in quite a while. And I look at all the 2-3 PSA emails a day I receive.
yeah unfortunately they are all out of stock right now : .22 uppers
