There’s just something cathartic about going through a big general store and just meandering around with much of a purpose.

No one does their own stuff anymore but the old heads, and most contractors go through the big 3…having 200,000 dollars worth of fasteners on your shelves doesn’t make as much sense when you don’t have 40 or 50 regulars coming in for 20-30 dollars worth of random nuts and bolts every day.
When I started working at Bumper To Bumper 24 years ago they had a good selection of hardware, when O’Reillys bought them out they stopped stocking the bins, within 2 months there was half the bins, in 4 it was about 1/4 of that size…man if I only knew then what I know now…

oh i know i would love going there. we no longer have any surplus stores around that i know of, and its a real bummer. i used to love going to the surplus store here in columbia. never knew what you’d find at any given moment. man that place looks huge. very nice.

wow its like a radio shack but better in back. too cool. yeah i wish we had that here in columbia sc ..

man i though ti twas military surplus at first, only that.. now ive seen the whole video its everything and then some.. that would be sooo cool around h ere.

There are a good number of surplus stores in Jacksonville near Camp Lejeune. It’s been a few years since I’ve last been but it’s always a blast to go on the hunt to find some gems. One of things I wish I bought last time were classroom instructional aids of weapons. Think of an M16 but 4 times the size so you can show small parts easier.

yeah when i visited my brother when he was stationed there in the corps he took me to them all… and i had a blast!! i bought a good bit of stuff too, and being that close to the base you get a lot of cool shet the grunts and stuff “sell” that they had to buy or were somehow issued and got to keep. yeah they had a few cutaways of firearms systems so it was real cool to see. i didnt have a lot of money to blow so i had to budget a lot.
