I paid for an Obsidian 45 on February 12, 2021. Received E-docs April 29 and still I wait. Paid for an Oculus August , 2021, received E-docs August 10 and still I wait. I really want a couple more but, there is no way in hell I’ll tie up anymore $ until I have at least one in hand. I truly believe the BATF is dragging it’s feet in approving forms.
I waited for what I thought was too long.
I called the ATF to inquire the status of the approval.
They approved it 9 months prior and I didn’t get a call from my dealer.
If you think it’s been long enough, or too long,……call them. All you need is the serial number & model from your application. They’ll tell you your status. I thought that I would be on hold for an extended time……but I was wrong, They were very prompt and quickly checked the status of my application.
Good luck
Checked 2 weeks ago, still “pending”. I’ve been on hold today for 38 minutes. Hard to understand why people want more government in their lives as cumbersome and inefficient as it is.
51 minutes waiting. Still “pending” Unfreaking believable.
Ooooooh….now I feel bad for ya.
Called yesterday…on hold for 41 minutes to find out my 1st can was approved April 15. Now I wonder how long before the dealer says, “come get it”?
Ill get one someday, whether im still in IL or not, F’n bs IL…cant believe they dont want to take hundreds of dollars from millions of people multiple times…just doesnt make sense here in this state.
Dealer called April 22, picked it up the same day. I’d test it this week if all my guns hadn’t been lost in a tragic canoe accident.
I know nothing about this topic. But a salesman at my local FFL is heavily suggesting I jump on board. When I asked how long does it take he said the best part is when its in jail and you’re waiting that you can have conjugal visits when you come in to shoot at the range. He said come back to talk to the gal that handles the cans and she’ll make it simple. I guess they deal with them a lot. It’s all new to me.
A warning @California_Refugee …once you shoot suppressed you will always want to shoot suppressed.
Any posts covering the physical basics? Mounts, operation, you clean them right?
I thought you need one for each caliber but just seen this morning that a 9mm can works of 5.56 7.62 etc. Thats extremely odd as I figured the gases would easily escape and defeat the purpose. I’m going to start reading up.
Also I bet my local range makes you buy theirs as they are the o es holding it and doing the paperwork. They are pricey (I understand, they are running a business and have lots of people to pay) so I’d imagine their cans are pretty pricey considering the product.
Also with mamy things in life I’ve learned instead of studying what to do, you accel faster researching what NOT to do. Any specific brands or styles, setups to AVOID? I’ll keep researching but I dont mind being led to water ![]()
Start with a 7.62 and a 9mm (some are rated for 30cal, but not all)
I actually started with a 45 since i had 45s and 9s. Suppressors have changed dramatically since i started shooting with them.
I have cans by YHM (a great, affordable can), Rugged, and Innovative Arms. My Obsidian 9 (Rugged) is modular so you can change the length.
IMO YHM makes the best attachment, but Keymo is looking to become an industry standard with many companies jumping on board.
Avoid IMO the cheapest of cheap (they may not have a warranty, as strong of material, etc.) And do your research. I use Silencer Shop for my purchases.
So that Obsidian 9 would work on a 5.56 rifle?
Wouldn’t it not be very effective?
@California_Refugee im not sure its rated for 5.56 due to pressure. I think it will be ok with 300blk subs though. I only use it with 9mm, so i would need to go read what it is rated for.
Suppression is tricky when you get different bullets/powders/pressure involved.
This is a great 1st suppressor. It has a lot of features that are desirable to a shooter.
It is a true multi caliber suppressor.
You can remove the mono core baffle and clean it ………because shooting a lot of 22 long rifle will dirty it up.
You can add some liberty flash suppressors or brakes to your rifles & the Sovereign to Mystic-X adapter to allow you to quickly mount or remove the suppressor without any tools (you’ll need an oven mitt……when its HOT).
(On a positive note…….That LS1 Brake….is Remarkable. It genuinely reduces recoil……you can literally support the .308 with your hand ….gently against your shoulder and you won’t get hit by the recoil of the gun.
BUT….that brake is loud ! If you MUST shoot without the suppressor that brake will mitigate recoil/muzzle climb. )
I initially purchased mine to suppress my 357 Sig PCC. …….that was the reason I chose 9mm suppressor.
It gets hard use on my Remington 700, Ruger American, AK-47, KS-47 and my 357Sig-AR, ……… It gets moderate use on my Marlin lever Action, Ruger 77/22 & 10/22, Glock-17 and both; my sons 556AR and my 556AR.
What’s not to love on a first suppressor……and its rated up to 338 Win Mag.
Yes it’s strong enough. For what you can do with this one…… it’s hard to beat as a 1st Suppressor.
Pic of the flash suppressors & brakes for quick mount / removal of the suppressor.
Very nice! That steel target was the only thing you could hear lol. I just happen to have a 10/22. First gun I bought when I became of age. I love it (who doesn’t love a 10/22 thou?)
