Coconut oil is great for wood and never goes rancid. One gardening professional that I read uses it exclusively on the wooden handles of all his gardening tools. It also seems to stop the growth of fungus/bacteria.
Can also try a preventive, like telling people to wash their damn hands. Wait, can we say damn on here? Damn
You can say that, but telling them to wash might offend them. ![]()
You can, but it summons us mods. ![]()
There are folks who refuse to wash their hands under any circumstances.
At a local Church dinner recently, several folks got dysentery, and least one person got a worm infestation.

Alcohols and some plastics donāt mix all. It will haze surfaces and destroys celluloid. A cotton towel and warm soapy water is all you really need.
As for wood, liquid furniture polishes based on lemon or citrus oils (usually mineral spirits based) are very toxic to bacteria.
Is the wood furniture not sealed with lacquer? That should provide a non porous surface and a simple wipe down with an antibacterial wipe should do the trick.
How has nobody suggested ballistol? Itās only been like THE go to for what like 70 years?
Ballistol is what I use after clearing the potassium salts with hot water, and wiping dry. Itās non-toxic and doe a fine job of lubricating and preserving. Iām not aware of any antiseptic properties.
I use a steam generator.
