Considering a run for a state house position

All, I am considering running for a State House rep position in a couple of years. I mentioned it to a few folks at the latest ARFCOM HTF meetup at Wateree and received good feedback. Being a political outsider it may be a long shot and not even realistically in the cards.

Question. Has anyone ever held a political office? What is the best way of forming a committee that could help determine the best path to office and how to garner support from those already holding political offices here in the state.

The incumbent is Wendy Brawley, Dem., Sumter. I will be pursuing the position as a Republican.

At this time I am exploring the idea. I will not rely on this as a form of income and understand that all I can do is help keep SC on the right path and help ensure our state remains one that support our constitution and the freedoms it imparts on us.

I am a SC native and served in the USAF for over 20 years. I currently am federally employed but have the ability to walk away from that job and receive retirement in less that 2 years. My platform will be constitutionally based and will always put SC first.

My platform will include the proposal to introduce legislation that will limit the power of POTUS executive orders, requiring all EOs be ratified by the state legislators before being enforceable in the state.

Of course I am pro 2A and feel our nation is failing at mental health care, and enacting restrictions on arms ownership is not the answer.

Based on response I will change my username here to reveal who I am. Many of you already personally know me.

You have my support…especially since you confirmed who I thought you were. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for your support. As stated, right now I am just grinding my gears on if it is even feasible. I plan on contacting the other local republican reps in the next few months but only after I gauge the response. As many may understand taking the position here will be a challenge because my area has many entrenched democrats.

I am in Texas, but you sound like the kind of person our nation needs desperately. I truly believe that we are at a crossroads and the clock is ticking fast. Individuals such as yourself running for office and us like minded voters making our votes count and voices heard are our only hope.

Forget Sumter, if you really want to make a difference then run against that jackass Jim Clyburn. He desperately needs to be voted out of office. SC is not a liberal state. Clyburn seems to think that his constituents believes the same things that the constituents of NY, NJ, IL, CA, MD and DC believe.

I live in GA, but we need more people to step up and try and make a difference. I pray you do.

Thank you for the tip. Where do you practice? Being from outside the political circles, I am all for learning everything I can. I would enjoy sitting down with you in a casual environment, i.e. over beer and chat sometime. I think it would be wise of me to get more personal exposure to world of law and politics before I jump in feet first. If I run and I am elected this is how I plan on running my office. I will surround myself with experts, take in their knowledge and opinions and use that information combined with my own opinions to formulate my platform and determine how I will vote. I am smart enough to know I am not smart enough to go it alone.

There is no way I can beat Clyburn. I agree he needs to go but on the national level it will take someone with experience and huge financial backing. I have neither.

I totally understand your post and I know that you are right. I just really wish that someone would come in and really give him a run for his money. It is frustrating in a overall conservative state to realize that your very liberal congressman is doing so much damage on a local and national level. I do however wish you the best of luck.

Best of luck to you! Will be following your posts

The People of South Carolina would be lucky to have you!

I feel that, I’m a little ways up the road in Bishopville, 2020 election was the first time I went to the ballots since I moved down from PA 5.5 years ago and the number of unchallenged Democrats on the ballots in what I thought was a mostly rural area blew my mind. I’d expected it to lean more right.
