So glad Art Acevedo is out of Texas.
Once this law gets signed by the governor, and before Sept 1 (when it goes into effect) We REALLY need to know what is in it.
See my post four days ago. It’s hard to read (especially on a phone) but it is the final bill.
I would prefer everyone had to attend safety and proficiency classes first because although I will carry, I dont want shot by some dumbshart dirty harry wannabe that dont know anything but to point and squeeze into a crowd to get one bad guy. Point is, Lincoln was wrong. Not all men are created equal. Some are just beyond stupid and thrive in their own ignorance. We need to know that those packing can shoot straight, know not to fire into a crowd and when to draw a weapon and when not to or else this freedom will be stripped from us faster than a mf. Not to mention all else that could be consequential.
The problem I see with that is the manner in which the certification program would be run. Or administrated. If you make it a legal requirement you’re going to have a bunch of idiot lawmakers designing the programs. Then you’ll have a bunch of stupid requirements attached to a passing grade. Then you’ll have the government deciding that if you got a parking ticket your license would be suspended. Bearing arms is not a government-provided right. Government needs to stay tf out of it.
I can agree 100%.
My experience only…
When I received my carry license 3+ yrs ago, it was a very proud day. Navigating the process had intimidated me for a long time. I am competent with a handgun, but the LTC class taught me much more about gun safety, training and repetition, gun laws, and the Do’s and Dont’s of handling a weapon. It built my confidence to carry outside the home and was not a BS class. I walked away with respect for the instructor and the process. I encourage y’all to follow this path. The system works and made me appreciate my 2A rights and new responsibility much more.
Welcome to the group jharl. I completely agree with your assessment of the value of training. The second amendment doesn’t require any, rather it protects an inalienable right that is endowed by my creator. But there is definite value and I support training. My daughter was trained by me and is perhaps the most precise and safe handler of a firearm that I know. Her confidence is very high and she carries everywhere she is allowed to carry. Bring on the training. Just don’t make it mandatory as this is in direct conflict with the second amendment.
Having been through the classes and qualifications shooting. I am ready for this to go into effect. I’ll still complete the Ltc permit stage only because it will benefit me in my travels. Oh and btw howdy y’all from DFW area of Texas.
Well said, ‘Literally’. Same deal with my children. Being able to protect ourselves and our families is a ‘Natural’ right. Responsible folks will train, and those not so responsible may not. Either way, criminals are at large and should actually fear the possible consequences of their choices.
Texans can carry handguns without a license or training starting Sept. 1, after Gov. Greg Abbott signs permitless carry bill into law
Hopefully that’s the bottom line, but it would be nice if people with legal expertise were here to explain it.
I wonder if permits will still be issued in states with constitutional carry for additional benefits.
So far every California transplant that we have met has been very conservative. They’ve all moved to get away feom the smog and BS. Its the under 30 ones we need to show the light. God Bless Texas.
I’m afraid it’s not going to happen in South Carolina. Ever since the Open Carry passed the politicians don’t seem interested in bringing it to a final vote.
My emails to my Senator, Tom Corbin, are being ignored as well.
We have a couple of transplants that are just awful. Married couples who get another guy to do the husband twice a week for married couples fun. Siçk and twisted. Retur.n To cali.
I worked with the legislature here in Texas over two sessions to get Constitutional Carry. My observation here is that Texas was this:
- Do speak rationally before committees on this subject whenever possible.
- Do speak personally with legislators in a concise manner.
- Despite your beliefs, be rational with legislators and they will listen to you.
- Organize into groups and express your Constitutional Right to carry in and around the capitol city.
- In an discussion, always remind legislators about our 2nd Amendment Rights.
- Be persistent and don’t give up.
- Learn to work with politicians. All of them regardless of their party have a single goal in the back of their mind. Reelection. Use that as a tool to deal with them.
- Always be polite and professional with legislators for your cause.
Or as an alternate, when our elected servants violate their sworn oath to uphold the United States Constitution, arrest them for treason, try them, convict them and send them to prison or the gallows. It wouldn’t take too many of those to get the message across. “…shall not be infringed.” It’s not negotiable.
Good plan
That spoke to me; like it was straight from Sam Houston’s mouth sorta speak. Remember he was our governor first, T for Texas T for Tennessee!
I agree. Sam Houston was the man.
