CZ P-10S OR vs. Canik TP9SC Elite

I’m looking at my next EDC and I’ve narrowed it down to these two subcompacts. I like that the Canik is cheaper and the slide is direct milled for a specific footprint, but I’m concerned about the reliability. I’m concerned about Canik’s QC; cheap guns are cheap for a reason. I’ve bought one Turkish pistol (an MCP35 Hi-Power clone) and it hasn’t been a great experience.

Everyone says CZ’s QC is among the best and they are dead-solid reliable, equal to Glock. So, guys…which do I buy?

More and more I think the predominant decision behind choosing an EDC should be made only after trying out what works for you effectively. A pistol you can shoot well, comfortably, and confidently should trump most other decisions. I would rent and try what your considering and others before making a final decision on your EDC. My EDC is a pistol most consider inferior to whats trending and popular, because I’m a Ninja with it. My more popular and trendy pistols purchased (mistakes) sit in storage.

Agreed. I owned a CR920 Elite at one point. Couldn’t hit water with it if I fell out of a boat holding it. I sold it. Had a VP9SK I still miss.

Everything I own is pretty cheap.

I don’t own either of the weapons you mentioned. That said, I also don’t designate one of my handguns as my EDC because they are tools and none are designed for every task. Movie theaters or a church service, for example, require a different tool than I carry when I’m just going to my office for a work day, then back home. For me, it’s much more important that I’m proficient with multiple handguns so I practice a lot with several. In that way I can be confident in my choice depending on the circumstances. Good luck in your search.

No doubt that if you like a gun and can enjoy it, there’s nothing wrong with owning it for all kinds of applications. But when it comes to defence my recommendation based on real world experience, is that the weapon you carry familiar instinctively and handled by your muscle memory and subconscious. Having to remember under fight or flight which gun your parking and why is not good.

Okay, so I rented both at the range today and I’m definitely going with the CZ.

The Canik is nice, comes with a lot of features, and is cheaper. The trigger is way too light for an EDC gun, verging on dangerous. I didn’t have a gauge, but it felt far lighter than the Shadow Systems trigger in my Dagger.

There is such a thing as too light.

I read somewhere it is 3lbs but it feels even lighter then that

I have carried quite a few sub compacts for both work, and off duty. My hands down favorite is the Canik Mete MC9. Highly concealable, very low recoil, and the trigger is a dream. Everyone that I’ve seen shoot it, shoots it well. From new to handgun folks to experienced shooters. I have shot several thousand rounds through mine, with no malfunctions. This included qualifications, combat drills, and plinking with my family. Prices have gone up quite a bit in the past few years, now that people realize what a good weapon it is. My only complaint, is not really a complaint, but more of an observation, The magazines are not flush with the end of the magazine well, leaving a “pocket” between the heel of the hand, and the butt of the gun. Doesnt effect control, but it does feel a little different than others, including the CZ, and other sub compacts. My issued weapons included Glocks, several S&Ws, and Berettas. Loved them all, but love the Canik more

I would take any worn out CZ over any “top tier” brand new canik.
