All metal framed pistols are becoming relics and antiques in the pistol market right now. I love my Canik TP9 SFX w/ red dot but there’s nothing like the fell and balance of a CZ 75 pistol or a Beretta 92 9mm which was my military duty pistol. The next pistol purchase will be a relic full metal frame CZ 75B.
Same with long guns. Wood is getting harder to come by and of course more expensive as well.
I guy I know of does woodwork, and is making handmade stocks for flintlock kits. I wonder how long until even those are just 3D printed!
The only polymer pistols I buy are carry/home defense tools, mostly because I know they’re easily replaceable in the event they get damaged and/or confiscated. Everything else is metal.
I’m after a Baretta 92 FS myself, been looking locally for a little while now. That always gets my vote!
Can’t go wrong there. Good luck finding you one. I really like mine ![]()
Ruger P-89. My first handgun purchase when I turned 21.
Ruger never had the reputation like the others. But I will absolutely put it against any other full metal pistol made by anyone. It looks exactly like it did when I bought it.
The first I bought, the last I’d let go of. It’s my “Pistol purchase of a lifetime”
I have one of those too, and I can back that up. It’s big, heavy, and ugly, but it’s accurate, it will eat anything you can throw at it, and it won’t break.
I went with a Sig P226. The first handgun I ever bought was a P239 back in the bad old days of the Clinton AWB, and learned to love the DA/SA action. Still my favorite action type. The Beretta 92 doesn’t fit my hand right for some reason, but there’s no argument it’s fantastic.
The German made P226 is a thing of beauty.
Depends on the model year. Once upon a time I had an old 1970-something model with a separate breech block from the rest of the slide and it eventually broke apart from pin rust. Weird but not unheard of, and the cost to repair it was more than buying a new one. The models I have are US made and seem to have nothing in common but the company name from their polymer lines. Though I do like the P365XL, but I wouldn’t give you a nickel for a stack of P320’s.
Any good DA/SA gun of any make is still so much nicer than a striker fired gun. A good SAO nicer still…
Not sure on the year, but it does have a pic rail so not 70’s.
…if you can find one. Been keeping my eye out for the stainless one and when they do appear, they’re going for $1400.
my first pistol was a 92FS. It was pretty and all and Mel made it sexy but I sold it and got a SS Security-Six with a 2 3/4" barrel and a Super Blackhawk with an 8" barrel. These days I miss them all. I got a bunch of wonder 9’s now. Boring, but they work.
Someone mentioned the CZ 75B and they are indeed find handguns and Sar USA makes a very nice clone as well.
Just to be clear the Rival S is chrome plated and not SS. I kind of liked the Dark Side better as I already have one of their polymer frame Dark Sides.
Everyone should have at least one nice 1911…
