Most underrated weapon you own

What weapons do you have that don’t get much attention/thought but are generally fantastic pieces?

Mine’s a stainless Ruger P89. It’s old and it’s heavy, but it has a smooth trigger and action, it’s comfortable, it eats absolutely anything you can feed it, it never malfunctions, and it’s accurate. They can be had very cheap even with today’s inflated prices and if the weight isn’t a dealbreaker you may be surprised at the performance compared to today’s metal 9mms.

Second might be a H&R Pardner 12ga pump. It’s basically a relatively unknown Maverick 88…extremely cheap, zero frills, very tough, fires every time.

For me it’s my Bersa Thunder 9 Pro. I’ve had it for almost 20 years and was second pistol I had ever bought. All metal DA/SA 9mm with a great trigger. Thousands of rounds and never had a problem with it. There’s not much available as far as customizing goes, but i did figure out that its very easy to modify Beretta 92 mags to work with this platform.

H&R Pardner pump is not unknown. H&R been around for a long time. It is not a Maverick 88. It is a Remington 870 clone. Most parts interchangeable. Remington barrel would need a bushing. I own one, excellent shotgun. Heavy, but mass equals less felt recoil.

I’ve got the sister to the P89 - the KP90 .45 - and I agree, they’re Tanks. Just keep them Magnesium Slide Rail Ears lubed with a good, lightweight grease.

The other is my EDC Taurus G2c. With the addition of a Galloway guide rod, it’s reliable, easy to shoot, eats everything I’ve put through it. The pistol COULD use a bit better trigger, and as I understand the G3c is the “answer” to that.

I have other, more-expensive and “better made” pistols, but it’s concealable, I can hit what I point it at, and always goes bang - so I haven’t had a real reason to “upgrade”.

Two things: I said “relatively” unknown, H&R isn’t exactly a household brand, and I meant it was more like a Mav 88 in price, features, and function not that it was the exact same thing.

For me it’s the J.C. Higgins Model 20. I own a few of them from different years. The action is smoother than any shotgun I’ve ever owned, they slam fire which is always fun and if you get one of the models made in the 50s they have a cool mag cut-off feature. It’s a little switch you can flip and it will stop shells from feeding when you pump.

That’s a beaut! Is that a radial brake?

Savage Stevens 320 muddy girl camo shotgun. We got super lucky at a Walmart that had it on sale, end of summer 2020 unbelievably. My wife was still a part time employee at a different Walmart, and got a further discount and it ended up around $150 bucks otd. Our youngest daughter has taken deer, dove, ducks and geese with it. I wish I bought myself one

This is funny because before I got to your sentence, I already had my Ruger P-89 as my pick for this thread. Excellent metal (real gun lol) firearm that’s cheap, underrated and always goes bang.

Tisas 1911A1 Service Special
She’s a heavy chunk of Turkey…but boy does she shoot guuuud. I had to have some nostalgia (with some minor improvements ) and I missed the bang of a 45. With a little more lube than factory…few hundred rounds (ball ammo only) and she runs like the Nazis in '45!
:beers: here’s to you Mr. Browning.

I absolutely have to agree with you @rollinthankful

I feel the same way about my Tisas 1911A1 45
It’s the best 1911 on the market for the money.
Picked mine up brand new $345
Plus a new pair of $20 shoes

I have an old H&R Topper in 30-30/20 gauge that I received as a hand-me-down from a cousin. I’ve got a lot of deer with the old girl and even though it kicks like a mule I would never get rid of it except to give it to my grandson.
:+1:

Kriss Vector

Space gat with crazy engineering and zero recoil/muzzle rise.

I never get to take it out though.

Steyr M9 A2 - doesn’t get a lot of love, but of all the hand guns I have, I reach for this the most frequently. Feels good in the hand, conceals well for me, 1000+ rounds and never an issue. Great firing weapon, low recoil with unique sights that work fine for me.

Thanks! Yep it’s their factory radial brake, It really helps out with the recoil

Most Underrated Weapon I Own is the Winchester 1200 Police Riot 18.5" barrel. It’s a Police Trade In I picked up a while back. IMO-what makes it underrated is that in a pinch I can shoot cut shells in single feed. It does pack a wallop.

The Winchester Defender 1200 was my first shotgun. Second firearm I ever bought, after an SKS. Still have both of those.

I agree on everything you say about it.

PT809. I love this firearm and everyone that I let shoot it, loves it. It fits in your hand well and because it’s big, it helps keep the muzzle down, which helps a what the woman that have fired it liked. Many people bash Taurus but this one is one of the best in my collection.

Probably 95% of those that bash Taurus, have never held nor fired anything Taurus has made in the last two decades.

I’ll Stand by that statement - EVERY gun manufacturer has had clinkers, Taurus has worked hard to put their past problems in the past.

Are they perfect? No. Not even close. But they aren’t garbage, and many of their products will stack up favourably against far-higher-pricepoint peers.

My most under rated pistol is my Ruger Security-9. When I first got it I had a few stove pipes but after working it in it will eat anything I put in it. Accuracy is fine and it fits my medium size hands perfectly. I ended up changing out the plastic rod and put in a SS guide rod with a slightly heavier spring and I put on an upgrade trigger just because I could. I really couldn’t tell much difference, the trigger was already great.
