Dagger Range Result; Mags Dropped While Shooting

So I got a PSA Dagger last week (standard model cerakote green), took it to range first time today after cleaning and lubing it. Used three Pmag 15 GL9 magazines feeding brass cased Remington and PMC 115 gr FMJ ammo. Trigger pin: yup, mine “walked” a tiny bit after only 150 rounds, towards the right side of frame (as you look down sights orientated). Tapped it back centered. Will see if it is reoccurring problem and to what degree it happens. Biggest problem; right away the magazines started dropping out the gun at almost every other shot. I’m left handed so I double checked my grip to make sure I wasn’t inadvertently hitting the mag release button, and shot it right handed to check - same thing happened and on all three magazines. Oddly, after like the fourth or fifth mag it stopped dropping the mags when shooting. Could this be just some weird “breaking in” issue? I mean that mag release button is stiff as it is. You have to deliberately push it to get it to actuate. Have two Glock OEM mags on the way to see if it happens at all with them. Next thing I noticed: I have NEVER had a pistol have so much shot residue come out the sides. My fingers that lay on the side of the frame in my shooting grip had lots of black residue just from shooting. Side note; For those looking for holster that fits Dagger (standard model) well; the Concealment Express IWB standard cut kydex for Glock 19/19x/23/32 Gen 1 - 5 fits very well and has good positive retention with the dagger.

I have 2 daggers and both pins walked and I fixed one by pushing in until it clicked and PSA fixed the other one.

I have put over 1000 rounds through each one and have never had a mag fallout. I use Pmag and blazer 115g or ammo along that line.

never noticed the residue.

Dagger owner for one week. Fired 100 rounds on Monday with no mag issues. I was searching over various Dagger videos and one was referencing wobbly mags. Might be a YMMV issue.

Could be a defective mag catch/release button. Do you have a G19 where you can pull both and compare them?

Do you have a vented barrel in an unvented slide? I have seen the soot/gas problem before in a build where someone only had a vented barrel and the gas was getting pushed into the slide before it could cycle back.

no I do not.

nope - it’s a normal barrel and solid slide. no venting on either.

I had this happen yesterday. Shot a full p mag with no issues. Put in a glock mag and after half a mag it started dropping every shot. Reloaded the pmag to see if it was the magazine. It dropped just about every shot.

is your Dagger a newly shipped one? What marking is on your barrel? (9MM or 9x19)

I had this same problem yesterday.
I also have the green one.
I contacted PSA.
This has been a problem in a few daggers, not all.
Contact one of the admins on the PSA HANDGUN OWNERS FB SITE.
They will get back with you and instruct you what to do.

Well took it to the range for the second time today - did the same thing with the mags falling out during shooting multiple times. Used both Pmags and Glock OEM mags. Shipping it back to PSA to have whatever the problem is fixed. Disappointing. Glad this wasn’t the only gun I had and was relying on it.

Guys, if you experience this issue, shoot customer.service@palmettostatearmory.com an email and let them know you are having the mag drop issue. They will get you squared away.

Sorry to hear about the continued issues. Put another 100 rounds in today with no issues. Mags stay secured and the trigger pin is not going for a stroll.

new dagger dropped both magpul and glock mags. replaced mag catch with new OEM catch; mags still dropped. replaced new OEM catch with HYVE catch; problem solved. probably because I got a RED one.

Update: PSA sent me a replacement barrel and mag catch. Put them in and it ran great with Pmags and Glock OEM mags. Today, brought it to the range and ran it using Pmags, Glock mags and KCI mags. Dropped the KCI mags frequently. Ran fine with Pmag and Glock mags. Guess the KCI mags are no-gos in it. Unfortunately the trigger pin walked out substantially after only 100 rounds. Time to call PSA again… frustrating. Not a gun I’d trust as a carry self defense gun. And it’s accuracy is nothing at all to brag about. Disappointing- if it had proved to be reliable it would be a good value. As it is - would not recommend. Too many other reliable value-priced 9mm guns in the $300 - $350 range to waste time and ammo chasing the Dagger’s problems. Canik TP9 series is same price range and WAY better. Even Taurus G3 series has gotten far better reviews. The Dagger’s only main selling points for me was the use of Glock mags and parts but if it has to have multiple parts swapped out and is finicky when it comes to after market parts then what is the value in the Dagger???

I had the same issue with Glock 19 OEM Gen 3 mags. I notice that the Gen 3 mags only had one side indented not both sides like the Pmags or Glock Gen 4 and 5 Glock mags. I ordered Gen 4 Glock mags which solved the problem.

An OEM Glock G19 gen4 / gen5 has an ambidextrous magazine release. That’s why there are notches on both sides of the Magpul PMAG and OEM Glock gen4 / gen5 magazines. The Compact Dagger is a G19 gen3 “clone” which is not ambidextrous. I’m not sure why the OEM Glock G19 gen3 magazines would be an issue.
