I wont argue there. It is a lot going on. I dont prefer it from looks alone. But, I’ve never ran a magnifier on a red dot before. The Amazon gift cards allowed me to basically try this out for free.
I did look at LPVOs and I do want to try one someday. But I didnt have enough gift cards for a LPVO.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I don’t like the flip sites either. But every time you post a picture without your rear flip sight you’re going to catch hella for it around here. So now I have flip sites on everything that needs them. To this day I’ve still never used one of them.
All I want is the magnifier to sit level with the romeo. I will add flip ups, delete the flip ups, hacksaw my front fix sights off if I have to. Whatever it takes. I just want the Red Dot and the magnifier level with each other.
And for what it’s worth as most of you I’m sure do know this. When the Romeo was lower than the magnifier everything looks fine. When it’s higher than the magnifier everything looks fine. You could see everything adjust everything and there’s no issue. The only issue is my OCD is driving me nuts when I look at it from the outside
This may be just slightly off topic, but… why would you limit yourself to rely on an electronic device only… when BUIS mounted at a 45 degree angle are so easy to mount and use?
I get the point and shoot argument in CCB scenarios but i would argue that you have a high possibility of injuring the agressor rather than eliminating a threat.
For crying out loud…a PDW is just a hammer. Every type of hammer has a specific job. You’ll never pound railroad spikes with a tack hammer nor will you drive picture hangers with a sledge. Please set up your home defense weapon so it works in as many CCB scenarios as you can think of.
Thanks for allowing my rant. I have weapons with red dots and others with lasers. All of them have a back up, secondary system . Just in case.
Because, as I said earlier, the chances of needing said sights is monumentally small and unnecessary. The chances of you needing them are near nil, and the chances of you being able to effectively use them within that already insanely small chance is even smaller, especially mounted at 45 degrees. Past that, again, I know I can effectively point shoot within 15m.
Maintain your optics like you maintain your weapons and it pretty much registers as a complete non-issue.
Absolute cowitness (if you have a flip up rear sight). First and foremost, if you are shooting with both eyes open, the front sight is irrelevant as you are target focused and the dot is supposed to appear superimposed onto the target. Secondly, it is an absolute pain to find a half decent lower 1/3rd mount that’s not too high and not to low to get what you are trying to achieve. Only annoying thing is if you run a magnifier the sight post is slightly visibile but not obstructing.
I have learned very much regarding this topic in the last week. Nothing I have learned will make the selection easier. Everything I have learned is just confirming that your selection will be a huge headache.
There is no industry standard for 1/3 co witness
Aimpoint T1 and Romeo 5 share the same footprint. But each one of them sit at a different height. So if you buy a T1 mount that is 1/3 co-witness made for an Aimpoint your Romeo 5 will not be at 1/3 Co witness. So now to my understanding if you want a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 sitting at one third co-witness and you are using a T1 footprint Mount that was designed for an AimPoint you will have to use the absolute co-witness mount to obtain 1/3 co-witness. So the primary arms T1 mount for 1/3 Co Witness does not sit at 1/3 co-witness with my romeo. I have started a return for that one. Currently in the mail is a absolute co-witness T1 Mount from primary arms that I am told should work.
If there is no industry standard for one third Co Witness and different companies use different measurements you never know what you’re going to get. Now add on top of that you are buying an aftermarket T1 mount. Is that T1 mount have measurements set up for an aimpoint? Or does that T1 Mount have measurements set up for a Romeo 5? This you may never know. When you add those variables together that’s why everyone on the internet all has different heights for all their setups. Half of them don’t even know what they have.
Confirmed…
If you want the Sig Romeo 5 to 1/3 co-witness with aimpoint T1 mounts. You need an absolute co-witness aimpoint T1 mount.
Most everyone never will notice the difference until you mount a magnifier. Then it becomes apparent.
So if I have a Romeo 5 and just got a 1/3 lower mount for it from Reptilia then it is going to be higher than 1.53”? I want a magnifier but am trying to figure out if I need to get a mount for it to be flush with the Romeo 5.
Its best to stick to same manufacturers for mounts and for dots/ magnifier from what I have always heard. In other words, dont get sig red dot and vortex mag and a PA dot mount with geissele flip to side mount.
While for the most part I agree with @GuitarGuy I had great success with a Vortex 3x behind an EOTech. It works better for me than the EOTech mag. Understand, I think this is a one off.
