Do you Co-witness or 1/3 Co-witness and why?

Running a rifle with a red dot. Which do you guys prefer and why do you prefer that?

No. I’ve moved on to running prisms and LPVOs on rifles which function fine even without power and both are very tough where I don’t think the extra ounces and clutter for BUIs is necessary as the chance of actually needing them is just so, so insanely small.

The only rifle of mine that runs a standard dot sight anymore is my AK, and that’s purely a range toy.

I could probably justify cowitnessed BUIs on my home defense PC Charger pistol since it runs a Romeo 7, but even if the optic dies in the heat of the moment, at “minute of bad guy” accuracy and distance of “across the room or down the hallway,” I think point shooting would be more effective than trying to fumble with and switch to irons in a high stress situation.

Lower 1/3 because you have a clearer picture vs absolute.

Absolute cowitness.
2 things play into this for me.

1 it must be with flip-up BUIS.
2 I’m more concerened with a consistent cheek weld, which equals my eye being inline with the dot or BUIS every time.

Most of my plinkers are LPVO now, but the cheek weld being the same I’m still lined up for the reticle to be on target when I shoulder the firearm.
-YMMV

So I’ve always ranco witness. It just seems normal to me because it’s just a straight line of sight through everything. Also it appears to be the most common thing so most likely that’s what you’ll end up with.

I’m doing a setup right now where I’m going to be forced to do 1/3 co-witness. At first it’s really throwing me off and I don’t like it. But now I’m seeing some advantages to it. One of them is it moves my site post out of the way since I love to run fixed A2 sites on my AR’s. That clears up some more usable space to see things through the red dot. So now I’m way in the options.
Thank you very much for your input and anybody else I encourage any input thank you

Lower 1/3 would put the dot/reticle in the front sight post tower. Are you running the dot/reticle high 1/3 with the irons as a lower 1/3 co-witness?
@California_Refugee
Sorry, I’m confused and trying to weed out my dislexia compunding this.

Other way around.

I shoot with muffs on so I prefer a lower 1/3rd co-witness. Curious to try the even higher Unity mounts though.

Wait - you guys actually shoot your pew-pews? What if they get dirty?

Just kidding.

Thats what… I think I was attempting.

But the mount showed up today and now the dot is higher than the magnifier. Not in the mood tonight. Lmao

Romeo 5
Primary Arms 3x magnifier
Primary arms 1/3 Co-witness flip mount.

Magnifier was higher than the dot, as it should have been with the above setup.

Bought a 1/3 Co-witness mount for the romeo 5 to “match” the 1/3 Co-witness magnifier mount.

Now the romeo is higher than the magnifier.

Pic.
You know the rules.

 I know. I was trying to be lazy since “She” won’t let me bolt the safe down next to “my” chair.

Thanks to all BTW.
This was supposed to be a “which do you like” thread. Not a “Help me” thread. I didn’t expect this. I planned to come home and bolt on the new mount and be level.

Doesn’t look like a Romeo riser.

It’s a UTG as in that picture of the box.

The Romeo riser sits lower than the magnifier

Partial review of the UTG mount you have, seems to have the same issue:

“ Replaced the factory mount on my Romeo 5 with this. It seems to have made the optic height slightly taller than lower 1/3 cowitness height. My irons are in the very bottom of the sight picture, if the optic were any taller I wouldn’t be able to see them. I dont mind this, but you may.”

Doesn’t appear to give a normal 1.6~ “ height with a Romeo 5?

I was thinking my Romeo 5 came with a low mount and a thin spacer in the box when I bought it? Definitely had low and absolute mounts, not positive on the spacer.

EDIT- The spacer I was thinking of came with a Primary Arms MD25 microdot, not the Romeo 5.

Just personal opinion…UTG is airsoft quality at best. You dont have to spend a fortune to get a quality mount.

Yes I understand. I also agree with you. All of this was purchased with Amazon gift cards.

I was able to get the primary arms magnifier on amazon. And before everybody starts with the Chinese bs. It did ship directly from primary arms in texas. It also doesn’t matter because it’s made in China anyways.

So afterwards once I realized I needed a different Mount of course the UTG is the only one available on amazon. Don’t get me wrong it is a very good looking amount. It seems very sturdy and robust. The major negative thing I can say is that it does say UTG on the side lol.

I will buy whatever Mount is required. I just need to know which one is going to line up with that magnifier.

My apologies for any spelling errors I’m very limited on time and using speech to text thank you guys

See, to each their own, but that setup to me looks like a high maintenance headache compared to a 1-6x LPVO or a 3x prism.
