I think e bougt 2 dozen eggs in the tast 2.5 years. Our hens all started molting as winter set in in 2024.
I likely pay more per dozen but we average 1-2 eggs per day from our 4 hens (1 is not laying at the moment). Wife wants to get more chicks to raise.
Feed is $30 a 40 lb bag, lasts about a month. I stocked up before the election & still have 3 bags in reserve plus another bag of cracked corn (~ $8 a bag), basic feed or helps boost metabolism in winter. Add in the grit, 3 months worth for $20/bag. Large bag of meal worms for extra treats ($30) but get about a year per bag.
My wife also befriended an older lady helping get her flock going. She has a surplus of eggs and gifts us an 18 pack about every 3 weeks.
i wonder if weâll ever see normal egg prices ever again once all this is over in a few years from now.

Walmart raised the price of sliced bread 27 % this past week, pork is way up and the cheap ground beef is $ 21.00 for the 5 lb chub. The damage done by whomever has running the Biden administration is long lasting.
And more fulfilling and satisfying. Caring for a creature who will provide for and sustain you gives one a closer connection to Life and this World. Even if you donât know it at the time.
