Faux Dissipator Build

Today UPS finally delivered a Dissipator Upper that has bounced around in a local delivery truck since Saturday…it departed UPS in Columbia SC Friday night and I’m 90 miles away from PSA in Columbia.

My Dizzy is going to loosely resemble the original Colt 605’s with the exception of using a Flat Top Upper Receiver and Bolt On Carry Handle. I will be using vintage Triangular Hand Guards but not to glorify what happened in North Hollywood back in 1995.

I have a PSA Flag Engraved Lower with the EPT installed. I’m impressed with that so far.

The pending questions are …do I keep Carbine M4 Stock in place or opt for a more vintage CAR-15 style? I also have everything to install a Series D Rifle Stock if I decide to?

Lastly. The Upper arrived with an A2 Birdcage Flashider…and as capable as they are , its not a great fit on a Dizzy. I have to following options to be more era correct. 1- A1 Birdcage…2-3 Prong 3-3 Prong Surefire War Comp.

This build puts me into the Mid 50’s on the Black Rifle and Carbines but I’m never too proud to listen to others opinions. Feel Free to chime in…I welcome it.

Send pictures and let us see what you have, as is. Dissipator gas length look funny, but function well even with cheap steel cased ammo. More time to push the projectile before gas port means higher muzzle velocity and less noise, and is easier on the BCG. Is the north Hollywood incident where the guy had full body armor and full auto and shot up police cars in street gun battle,?

Yes the North Hollywood Shoot Out was the famous gun battle between two heavily armed and body armored bank robbers and the poorly outgunned yet brave officers of the LAPD.

The Colt 605 was a failed attempt at morphing a Rifle length Sight System into a more maneuverable Carbine by simply cutting off a Rifle Length Barrel barely forward of the A1 Front Sight Block. What caused this to fail was the Dwell Time from the lack of gas behind the round after passing the gas port.

Id put an a2 stock on there

Steel 20 round straight mag would look old school. Example: 16" barrel (mid length gas)

I have a Dissipator that is currently wearing a MOE rifle length foregrip…looks OK but I have been looking for a narrow A2 foregrip, but I do like the triangle grips on that pic above! I might give those a try on mine!

I just replaced mine with a 2piece rail. I like it.
Midwest Industries midlength. They make carbine and rifle also.

My Dizzy ended up the way Colt designed them in 1965… D Series Stock and all.

I included a Pic of an M16A4 Clone I completed over the weekend. My onky deviations being a Stainless Barrel and a Midwest Quad Rail. Im tired of chasing after KAC Rails and prices.

Im a little surprised that nobody has picked up the small details on the Pistol Grip.

I guess everyone assumes because its sporting Retro Furniture. I Prefer the term " Vintage" , that it’s an A1 Grip?

The Grip is my own modification of your typical Parts Kit A2 plastic tgat that I rasp dremel to my liking.
