Firing burned through the paint?

Hi, new hear. I have just used my 57 Rock on the range. Came back home to notice that the coat on my new favorite pistol has some damage. Checked on a magnifiying glass and it showed that that the damage has eaten through the paint. Is this normal?

This is where the casings hit when being ejected. Doesn’t look nice cosmetically, but it is normal.

Yep. Completely normal. The cerakote makes it easier to see unfortunately.

Like they said, normal. Happens to a lot of semi-autos. A lot of AR’s have a shell deflector add on and some have on milled/cast/forged in to the upper.

I had my CZ52 customized and cerakoted and the brass being flipped out by the extractor chewed through the coating just below the extractor in one range session. The guy who did it, took it back and did a heavy epoxy strike surface there and it’s lasted really well.

The slide on your Rock is nitrided so this won’t affect the wear or corrosion resistance of the metal. It’s purely cosmetic. So, unless this is your BBQ Gun, I’d say that it’s honest range wear and a badge of use and not to worry about it.

Thanks for confirming guys. Never noticed it on my other pistols, but this is my only cerakoted gun as well. I’m really loving this gun and it’s black green combination grew on me rather quickly, hence my disappointment when I noticed it…:sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

I try not to look at too many photos of black/green combo 5.7s. I’m afraid my “want” will become a “need”. :joy:

I kid you not, I only bought it because I always wanted a 57, I told myself that my first ever gun would be the FNfiveSEVEN because of Counter-Strike influence but it is just too expensive for my kind… And then I saw this for $399. I bought it out of wim, wasn’t even planning and I wasn’t too sure about the color but just couldn’t resist. The pictures does not do the actual product any justice. It’s way more good looking in person. :joy:

I have the OD Green 5.7 with a copper fluted, threaded barrel and cut outs on slide. Just got a Holosun 407 green dot on it. Only have about a hundred through it so far, but I love it

mine is stainless on a FDE frame. brass doesnt mark it.

lol. i dont know if it does or not, thats just a thing we have to live with if we shoot them.

Hey, tough guys don’t care if their weapons “look pretty.” They just got to work when a bad dude is fixin’ to launch your arse into the hereafter (that means keeping 'em cleaned and properly lubricated).

I guess I’m not a tough guy. I like my tools to stay in nice condition.

I like your choice of terms – “tools.” Tools are intended to be used and that use will eventually show up on the tool. No craftsman would intentional deface his tools but a seasoned carpenter’s hammer doesn’t look anything like the ones that are hanging on the pegs at Home Depot.

i don’t have any markings on mine but the casing flys out fast and ricochets all around the indoor range
