Well I meant in general. Not his specific reaction to the pic, but that general reaction gunguys on the internet have to seeing SBRs. We jump to protect and educate each other, but it’s really just a drop in the bucket when you factor in guys who are not on forums heavily.
As an FFL, my first year of transfers was inundated with AR pistols, and the purchasers of maybe 90% of them expressed their intent to put a stock on it. After that first year of constantly gunsplaining the NFA, i stopped. It will probably be better down the line if the NFA winds up gets neutered due to massive non-compliance.
It’s the same with gun laws up in these freedom-hating states that are so convoluted and ever-changing they’re almost impossible to comply with, even for vigilant gun owners who do try to do everything the “right” way.
I’ve seen quite a few guys at FFLs express frustration that things they’ve bought got sent back over compliance issues. There’s a lot of companies out there that aren’t like PSA and will ship orders they shouldn’t and then the FFL has to deliver the bad news.
Which is honestly the goal for gun grabbers - they know they can’t outright ban guns, but they can make it so difficult to acquire them most people just won’t bother (which is, in essence, the same thing) and make people who already own them felons for the most minor and inconsequential of things like a certain grip, stock, or muzzle device.
Tangent over - but that SBR is a prime example. Is there a functional difference between that gun with a stock and a brace? No…just the felony.
good job on helping him. but reality is there are 100’s of thousands out there that dont know the laws, buy guns, and dont care about it as its “how it came when i bought it” or i needed something and this was on sale. sometimes i wonder if by us who are in the know are shooting ourselves in the foot by trying to help others stay within the lines so to speak, as the majority being outside of them, would be more of a common use thing to me and may just help show they cant arrest everyone, and how stupid and rediculous that rule is. but i digress…
