i’ve not seen them produce that before. i wonder if thats a new form of packaging were seeing from them.

i’ll stick with my AAC for now, until others become as inexpensive it does enough for me.

AAC polymer tipped have outperformed everything else that I’ve used.

Yeah for the bulk available rounds, aac vmax is definitely the go-to, it’s what I’ve been stocking.

There are currently two FNH licensed ammo manufacturers that are producing 5.7x28 ammo in the US.

Fiocchi, they are packaging product for every retail brand.

AAC, that produces their own products

How can it be licensed now that it’s NATO spec? The point of NATO spec is so that every member nation can produce their own 100% interchangeable products to that spec without worrying about licensing and proprietary corporate secret information.

Umm, maybe because of articles like this…

Here have a read…

"Herstal, Belgium) – 16 June, 2022 - Fiocchi Munizioni SPA, a global leader in outdoor shooting sports with an unparalleled 146 years heritage and three industrial and commercial platforms in Italy, US and UK, is pleased to announce that a partnership has been concluded with FN Herstal, S.A., the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of small calibre firearms, associated ammunition, and integrated weapon systems, along with its US subsidiary, FN America.

The partnership includes a licensing agreement that specifically covers the manufacture and supply of 5.7x28mm ammunition to the US commercial market, based on FN Herstal’s original design and technology, further reinforcing the long-term cooperation between the two global players."

Here’s a link to the article.

You’re missing the question. The question isn’t “has FN licensed to Fiocchi.” The question is, “why would anyone bother licensing if there’s both a SAAMI spec and a NATO spec?” SAAMI approved the 5.7x28 spec on Jan 16, 2020. NATO published STANAG 4509 on Dec 4, 2020.

Once those specs are out, why would it be required to get a license? That’s the whole reason that 450 SMC exists; because the license holder of 45 Super refuses to submit to SAAMI and give up the license.

So, from what I can tell, no one actually needs a license to make 5.7x28 ammunition any more than they need a license to make firearms chambered in 5.7x28.

So, if you don’t need it, why get it?

I have no interest in arguing with you.

I simply relayed information from a credible source. That’s all I did.

I guess you should direct your comments and complaints to FN Herstal, Fiocchi, SAAMI, and NATO. Make sure that they understand how they are supposed to do things.

As a guess, and it’s a total guess, the license has to do with manufacturing techniques, lubricants on the case, and stuff like that. Sure, anyone (I think?) can manufacture any ammo to SAAMI specs, but we all know that doesn’t guarantee it’ll be any good. Materials, manufacturing methods, powders, primers, bullet construction, etc. can still be proprietary even if the end result is dimensionally identical to someone else’s ammo, including size, pressures, and other physical measurables.

If you’re arguing it’s not coming across. What I saw was a link to an article that didn’t answers my question. And it is a question, not a complaint. No need to get defensive.

That was also the best I could come up with. I know that both AAC and Elite Ammunition have come up with their own formulations for the coating so it might be that FN has kept the specific formula proprietary.
