I got my AKV today. Super excited but after lifting the gas tube lever I can’t get it to go back down all the way. I have disassembled and reassembled many times. Pushing down on the gas tube upper while pushing the lever down, ensures it’s seated properly. Nothing. I even used some wrench but it’s not budging. Any suggestions here?
It’s tricky until you get a feel for how rough you can be and get used to the shape of that retainer. It has a flat milled into it and it’s awkward to find the first few times. You should be able to get light on it and see where its interfering.
Hey I appreciate that thanks. I had decided to get aggressive with it and torque it. Then worked it a couple more times to get comfortable as you say with what it takes. I think with it being new the metal on metal on the lever to gas tube assembly just needs to ware down.
Any suggestions on the triangle folding brace? Pushing the buttons in does not seem to want to work so that I can fold the stock in.
^ In the future when removing the lower hand guard be careful your front lower handguard retainer isn’t to far forward or back before you go smashing down on your catch. There should be no hammering, just a slight tap tap back into position, sometimes just a push.
Like castaway says a light will help you see what your working with under there. Get the lower lever above the indent and push it down.
I have seen a few sticky PSA push buttons. Once they are used a few times they all have seem to loosen up from what i’ve witnessed.
Take a soft punch, or something to depress the button down and open the stock, repeating this about a dozen times or more repeatedly and see if it still sticks.
On the folding mechanism, apply some firm pressure to over-close the hinge while you press the button. That will (should) relieve any pressure on the catch that would be resisting release.
