Hey guys.
I thought removing the AKV brace would be easy. However, I remove the two screws and I can’t figure out how to get the brace off. Any help? The brace rocks side to side but won’t actually come off
Figured out that there was a castle but that needed to be removed too.
If you could let us all know the sku and how, even pictures of the removal process, that would be very educational for the community. We have different variants with different braces and assemblies. The more we know as a community the better. The SBA3 and SBA4 braces can easily be taken off the buffer tube. I suspect you are changing out the whole buffer style assembly? Thanks!
Were you able to get the screws out without heating them up? I had to use a soldering iron to heat mine, to break free the threadlock. What are you putting on in place of the brace?
Yes, I am removing the entire brace. I am going to attach a CNC brace. Would like to do a step by step but I don’t have a vice grip and will need one to remove the staked castle nut.
I was able to get the screws out without heating up. Simply turned the screws until they started moving and they came out. Didn’t realize they had locktight on them until well after I took them out.
I am adding a CNC brace. It took almost two months for it to arrive from the time I ordered.
i mean for me to remove the sba3 brace all i do is lift up the button we depress to move the brace to another position all the way… once you gete it lifted all teh way up, and i mean you have to really lift it up, but once its up you can slide the brace right off the back of the buffer tube. then you can put on any brace that uses the same tube. is that not what you’re trying to do?

This is what it looks like when removed and the CNC brace is added
Now I understand what you were trying to do. I thought you were just trying to get the brace off.
What brace does the AK-V take? Like what fits the rear trunnion
It has an AKM style rear trunnion. Many braces will fit it depending on how they are configured, or if you are using the correct adapter. We currently use our AK/AR buffer tube adapter for SBA3 braces, and a picatinny attachment for some of the others.
Welcome to the forums!
Well I’m glad you said that. I emailed psa and they told me they only recommend using their adapters. I have one with the sb brace on it but I don’t like the look. Thanks for the advice
We can only guarantee fit and function of our products, so that’s all we will recommend. We also sell our picatinny adapter that we use for the 1913 brace that comes on some of our models.
Vise grips?
You do know that there is a cheap tool made specifically for removing castle nuts right?
Thanks for the photos. I see what you’re trying to do now. My akp already has a triangle folder on it so im of no use there, same with the removal of the buffer tube/castle setup they have on that akv of yours. i thought you were just removing the brace itself, not the tube and the whole kit and kaboodle.
exactly as i had.
@Cottonmouth_guns Welcome to the forums Jared. Please enjoy!!!
Will this wrench push through staking without issue?
No, you need to try and push the metal of the stake back. Staking is done so it doesnt move.
@unixfool welcome to the forums sir! glad to have you! enjoy your stay!
