I found out what was causing my AR15 to double tap.
While reviewing the lower receiver assembly video by Hank Strange, I
noticed him placing a small spring under the disconnector. I missed him
doing that the first time I watched the video. The missing spring was what
was causing the double taps.
My rifle is working as it should now! Thanks for all your helpful comments!
A good first time experience. I now know more about how the rifle works.
Disconnect spring upside-down (the “big end” goes down into the slot in the trigger). Also - ensure it is fully-inserted and not crooked or bent.
Magazine catch spring mistakenly inserted in [Disconnect Spring Slot of] trigger assembly (seen it TWICE now in firearms I was asked to help diagnose!).
Small Burr(s) on Disconnector hook.
Trigger and/or Hammer spring(s) installed backward (haven’t actually encountered this yet, but have seen accounts of it)
There may be other issues in the MilSpec FCG that can cause you operational problems, but I am ignorant of such.
I had an AKV 9mm doing double taps and even triple early on. I didn’t want to send back to PSA and wait to get it back so I left it alone. I read somewhere the hammer needed polishing and it would quit. I have 500+ rounds (maybe 1000) and it has all hit quit
A little surprising but also kind of fun.
Also I’ve built plenty of AR platform but zero AK. This is my only AK gun so it’s new to me. I was gonna tear it t down but it seems to have solved isltself
AKV is fun to shoot btw
