I got an itch for a semi auto .308!

Well I’ve been wanting a .308 semi auto for a while. I’m definitely interested in the .308 Jakl that’s about to release, but I’m thinking about waiting and seeing how it does. Then picking one up during their Gen 2 release. Anyways, here are the rifles I’m considering. Not going to lie, the Sabre 6.5 CM has my attention. What do you guys think? What would you go for and why?

Socom M1A1

PTR-101

Billet Sabre .308

Billet Sabre 6.5 CM

308 Jakl

The 308 Sabre is extremely nice. I have had the opportunity to shoot a few of them, and they are dialed in (see my profile pic).

Those do look sweet. I tried getting one back when they first launched. I missed every drop for about 6 months :expressionless:. I kind of gave up and then I spent the money on another hobby, my kids . Any chance that you ran one with a dedicated red dot setup?

I need a 308 battle rifle in my collection as well, the PSA M110 is looking super Awesome to my eyes. Also, that Sabre 308 moss green is looking Beautiful as well. I haven’t decided yet, but I’m 50/50 on which one to pick up First lol.

The SOCOM, PTR and FAL style rifles should only be considered if you already have a reliable and modular AR based rifle.

Both had 1x8s on them and were suppressed.

I can see that. They can been considered novelty rifles, but if needed I’m sure that they would do just fine in an emergency.

Nice. I have a Sig Sauer 1x8 LPVO sitting around I could put to use.

Regarding the M1A, from what I read and understand, you’re likely better off going with the Scout Sqaud over the SOCOM 16.
18" barrel vs. 16" barrel. Both have brakes on the end, so both are loud, but you’re getting a much bigger fireball out of the SOCOM.

I have a basic GI variant M1A. It’s a soft shooter for sure being .308 and I like it.
Of course, if your heart is set on the SOCOM, then don’t let me stop you from getting one if you decide to go with the M1A.

I think I would, in general, agree with Gray. Depending on your potential use case, an AR-10 would be the best investment, and the others would just be something fun to have. Though, if you really do want an M14 style .308 battle rifle, you may want to consider going with a Fulton Armory M14 over the Springfield M1A.

I agree. I’ve had multiple chances to get a Socom M1A1 since 2005’ish. It caught my attention when I seen it in a JAE stock in some gun magazine. My buddy ended up getting one. It was cool, especially for living in California at the time. I’m in a much better place now 2A wise, so I can get just about anything, hence placing that rifle lower on my list now. I might still pick one up later on. Unless I come across some crazy deal, I’ll be getting an AR10 first. I guess living in California at the time made this rifle more appealing.

I’ll probably end up with the 16" .308 Sabre.

personally, im holding out for the 308 jakl, but then again i’ve already got a scar 17 and my ar10 pistol in 308, soo im pretty well covered in 308 now.
