Is the acro too fat?

So the aimpoint acro looks super cool, and I’m a fan of the closed emitter notion, but I know the 5.7 is sensitive to slide weight, and the acro is listed at 2.1oz vs 1 oz listed for the holosun 507k I know some folks run.

Is the acro going to keep the pistol from cycling properly?

Holosun has the HE509T which is similar, but they claim it’s about .4 oz lighter at 1.72 oz.

Slap some “sticky weights” used to balance automotive wheels on your slide and find out. :man_shrugging:

Here is a comment from Buffman R.A.NG.E. On the Official Rock 5.7 Pistol Thread on AR15.com.
“ 2oz is a heavy optic for slide mounting on most 5.7 guns. My recommendation has always been under 1.2-1.3oz. 1.6 oz on say the SRO might be the limit. Definitely can’t use super heavy optics if you want to run subs.

Good find even though I I am now sad. :disappointed_relieved:

Might the lightening cuts on the RK1 slide get you back in the window for functionality?

eh maybe, I think buffman said he hasn’t been able to get a suppressor to cycle as it is without a booster (believed to be due to the slide weight iirc), so I might do the rk1 and skip the red dot altogether, unless there’s a dot setup that’s lighter than the cover plate.

Dang. That’s clever.

Just saw a @Buffman-RANGE short where he’s got it cycling. Very curious about the ammo in that short.

There’s a couple things to keep in mind. Standard pressure ammo is going to be the most forgiving. You should be able to run upwards of an 11oz can with an optic with Ss197/AE TMJ, 198 etc.

Only when you want cycling to happen with subsonic ammo do you really need to be concerned. A sub 6 oz can, lighter optic, and 55-62gr subs that ride the 1000-1050 fps range are what’s needed. That’s likely the newest video you’ve seen. I have some of the 62gr Fiocchi sub load, but I’ve been asked not to post it until they give me the OK (even though I bought it with my own $$).

I will see if PSA can tell me how much the RK1 slides reduce the weight, and that may give you more wiggle room.

I’ve asked a couple machine shops about making me some dead weights to attach to the slide to test the limits of optics, but I haven’t been able to get any made. I guess maybe I just need to make my own.

I wish they’d get off their asses and give you the okay. The new fiocchi is 62 grains… But no idea what the speed is or what they tested it from or what platform it’s meant for or any other information because why would anybody want any of that?

Now that I’ve got my can out of jail, I need to test subsonic loads from vanguard again.

All that being said, I don’t have a great can to test with the rock. My suppressor is specifically for the FN Five-seveN.

At least my Detroit ammo subsonics for the p90 work great.

Totally don’t DM me asking for the link for the unpublished video  I will say the 62gr Fiocchi works in ALL of the platforms I’ve tested in so far. It will go super in 16" guns though.
