I’m making this post as a clear place to post any and all measurements for the 5.7 Rock and its variants. This rabbit hole started from wanting to know how much weight the RK1 slide saved vs the standard slide.
Firing pin assembly - 16.86g / 0.594oz
Accessories
Cover plate w/ screws - 4.85g / 0.171oz
Rmr plate w/screws - 10.58g / 0.373oz
Dr plate w/ scews - 10.53g / 0.372oz
Standard Non-cut
Front sight - 0.99g / 0.035oz
Rear sights - 5.64g / 0.199oz
Bare slide - 264g / 9.312oz
Slide total - 287.49g / 10.140oz
RK1
Front sight - 1.99g / 0.071oz
Rear sights - 8.55g / 0.301oz
Bare slide - 249g / 8.783oz
Slide total - 276.40g / 9.749oz
Comparison
Bare slide difference - 15g / 0.529oz
Sight difference - 3.91g / 0.138oz
Actual weight difference - 11.09g / 0.391oz
And here’s a breakdown of the Firing pin assembly:
Firing pin housing L - 3.37g / 0.119oz
Firing pin housing R - 3.86g / 0.136oz
Firing pin - 4.01g / 0.141oz
Firing pin spring - 2.13g / 0.075oz
Plunger - 0.37g / 0.013oz
Safety block - 1.69g / 0.060oz
Safety block spring - 0.12g / 0.004oz
Back plate - 1.31g / 0.046oz
Total - 16.86g / 0.594oz
I’ve been kind of curious if we can 3D print the Plunger and housings since they’re just plastic. Only problem would be trying to mimic the weight and strength.
Regular barrel - 109.18g / 3.851oz
Threaded barrel w/o protector - 120.42g / 4.248oz
Thread protector - 5.62g / 0.198oz
Recoil spring - 19.83g / 0.699oz
This is all I have for now. I want to add dimension measurements to this later, but thats going to take a lot more time.
I see that the forums does not like more than one line skip. I might have to put this in a spreadsheet and just post a screenshot.
Does anyone have the regular cut slide that they are willing to remove their red dot and weigh it? I’m trying to find what the absolute max weight of the slide can be before it starts to fail cycling. It looks like the RK1 configuration lightens just enough to negate the weight of the adapter plates. I don’t remember the original source, but the max weight for red dots is supposedly 1.35oz, and using any red dot heavier than 0.977 oz would push over that using the RMR plate.
Smokey24_24 indicated in the Optics thread that he mounted a Vortex Venom ( 1 oz weight ) on a standard optics cut slide using the DR plate and it would not cycle at all. He removed the Venom and installed the cover plate and it cycled fine. Based on this information, it appears that there is no currently manufactured MRD that is light enough in weight to allow cycling of the standard Optics Cut Rock slide if mounted on one of the supplied adapter plates.
Unknown if the RK1 slide has been lightened enough to allow proper cycling.
PSA needs to supply a lighter recoil spring to allow cycling with heavier or plate mounted MRDs.
I finally got a regular optic cut slide. However, it’s actually lighter than the RK1 slide. I took a look at the inside and found that the amount of material cut out from the front of the slide was different.
I think the dots would be indicative of which mill they came off of. I wish I had a scale to help you out.
Definitely has me baffled though. The two optics cut look pretty much the same from the pics, at least to these old eyes.
Gonna be honest. Not exactly sure how to remove it, whether its a punch, or a tiny allen, etc. I guess I have plenty of spares at this point to figure it out though.
Just finished a range trip with the new slide. I had the Cylee Wolf0 red dot, weighs 1.4 oz, on the RMR plate. 75 rounds, not a single failure.
So it’s cycling with 1.79 oz now vs the 1.35 limit from before. I have a fully enclosed red dot that weighs 2.4 oz, I’m curious if that will cycle as well.
It looks like the sides of the standard slide are cut out, where as the RK1 slide isn’t. I’m assuming it makes it easier to drill the holes through the top. I’ll try to take a picture of it tonight, but it’s a hard angle.
Now it makes sense. RK1 second step mill ends at the front which would likely lead stress risers/cracking at the windows IMHO. I’m still baffled though how that nets more weight.
So, the impossible just happened. I just shot 100 rounds with a 2.4 oz red dot plus the 0.37 oz adapter plate with zero failures. I’m pushing over 12 oz for the total slide weight, which should be way over the limit.
