Is the AR47 dead?

I’ve been holding out for a PSA 7.62x39 AR47 upper for awhile, passing up other AR uppers in the same chambering, since I’d really like to give PSA my business and the upper reviewed pretty well from the ones I could find who managed to get one awhile ago. Tried emailing about it and the kind person who responded really did not have any information either beyond keep checking the website.

Any thoughts on this?

The AR47 is an excellent and ultra reliable rifle, I have 2 of them and one has 5000+ rounds through it. I like the AR47 better because my rifles are like a big erector set, everything gets changed around and reconfigured. Everyone else is to cheap to pay PSA for their proprietary feed ramps and as a consequence their rifles don’t feed properly. I like 762x39 because ammo is cheap and I don’t want to waste good ammo practicing shooting offhand.

Brad,

My primary reasons are threefold:

  • Buying an AK right now just is not within my budget especially considering that I, unfortunately, (please I’ve heard all the jokes) live in California and trying to get one here that our masters will allow and those are NOT cheap

  • Out of all of the AR platform calibers none of them appeal to me as much as the 7.62x39 round

  • I’ve already invested into the AR platform and having the ability to use ammo that is cheaper than 300aac, 223 wylde, or 6.5 grendel (much less being able to find any) in a caliber I’ve always been interested in is of interest to me

And out of the uppers chambered for the AR platform in 7.62x39 PSA had the highest marks for reliability. And with the company being in the same backyard where I have family, plus having a good reputation, I really would prefer giving them my money. But if our “friends” in DC have any say I may not be able to wait much longer if I wish to get one.

So much this! Money is not easy to come by for me and I’d rather buy once, and get something good, than buy something that I’ll wind up having to fiddle with forever to get working right.

I have several Ar47s, I hope you know what you’re getting into. They are great to shoot but sometimes you have to tweak the rifle to get it to ignite the ammo depending on how hard the primers are. There are many tricks to fix this issue. I know them all… good luck.

Yeah I’m familiar with some of the teething pains on this. But, short of paying $2+ per for 300aac (when I can even find it) I really don’t have much in the way of options. But the real kicker is that I have yet to find a AR47 PSA upper for sale anywhere. At this point I may wind up having to go with plan B after I make a couple of other purchases (hopefully before anything bad happens).

I am all ears 'tho if you or others have any other options for a different caliber AR upper that may work better. Maybe I should just give up on the idea…

If you’re going to stay on the AR15 platform then the x39 round is the right choice especially, for times like this. Ammo is already starting to come down for this round. I like shooting it because most people don’t and its cheaper and more available. I also shoot 308 and 6.5CM I stocked up when the getin’ was good.
Why do want a PSA built rifle when you can build from a variety parts elsewhere.I know where you can find them most of the time.

Mainly to support the company since they make solid products overall and their company supports our hobby as well. Just wish their stuff was a bit more available.

But you’re right I’ve already been looking at a BCA version and at this point it’s probably best I look at picking up one of those. Just was hoping someone at PSA would chime in and give a 411 on this since it’s like they sold a bunch then just suddenly stopped.

@AmaltheaFox We will probably bring them back in time, just not anytime in the near future. Right now production of those barrels is going to the KS47.

I think I can hook you up with a rifle. Im getting the details now. They said they have a 16" barrel. They’re on the internet too.

Thank you very much for the update! That’s disappointing but completely understandable. :+1:

That’s incredibly kind of you but I think I’m going to give up on this for now. Probably should focus on the other stuff I need to get first and will circle back around on this. Thank you for your help!

I Built a AR in 7.62X39 And Absolutely Love it accurate deadly and inexpensive to shoot even now with ammo inflation

My Reasoning for the build in the first place was the availability of ammo especially if the crap hits the fan having something chambered in 7.62X39 just makes sense but then it shot so well it may be my favorite build to date. 59AR47

I try to keep as many AK as AR that I build. I love both platforms. It can get boring always taking out the AR beauty queens. There are always times when taking out the AK biker chic is loads of fun. Being a cheap date is just a bonus.

I have been hoping that PSA will get some more 762x39 uppers or kits. Its an excellent round and cheaper than 556. More hitting power at closer ranges.

I have a PSA AR47 carbine, I keep it set up for CQB and out to 100yd and it’s a great shooter, tons of fun. I have a PSA 5.56 that I have set up for mid range 100-400 yd. Not that experienced with it yet… yet.

Yeah, been on that “lemme know when it’s available” list for a while for the 10.5" classic complete upper…

I’d like to maybe get one in 11.5" made as well. It’s for a truck gun/PDW setup. I need something I can beat up, drop, bounce around my truck and not have to worry about some fancy rail setup getting damaged, but can drop a hog or gator at 100 yards without having to worry about a follow up shot.
