It don't take much to entertain me

Love you have a crash bar and a bra on that car. Are you worried about damage or not?

Y’all don’t miss a thing! I totally forgot about that logo. @Don_Keedix LeBra was given to me but l did install the bull bar and lights…just to have the lights mainly. 1/4 million miles on that Tupperware SUV.

Couple of past projects. Welded cast iron cross with a flux core welder. It held! I have a Tractor Supply Co. welder (Jobsmart). A Century (Lincoln) 120A inverter arc welder. And not pictured an Eastwood 135A Mig/flux core. I have a spool gun for aluminum, but I don’t have MIG gas or Helium , mainly use flux core. The Eastwood compares to a Lincoln 140A. Tweco style, decent feeder, nicer gun than Lincoln. Coworker has the Lincoln. Lincoln feeder is better, but I bought and installed knurled feed rollers on mine, and it’s pretty bullet proof with good quality wire. I ain’t no Michaelangelo or Rembrandt when it comes to welding, but maybe Da Vinci in terms of his inventor side…
Other project - Wife wanted a gate at hedgerow for gnomes to be able to come and go. I didn’t have any hinges, and the nearest hardware store that was open was 50 mile round trip. So I found some soft steel strap, and fabricated my own. Bent (hammered)them around nail that is the hinge pin. Wood is from a wire spool, nailed to OSB. She says it is too fancy and no self respecting gnome or even a troll would go in or out of the damn thing. She just wanted a ragged old door hanging with wire hinges between two natural weathered posts - the one I made is not whimsical enough. I said - Well maybe a WW2 airplane gremlin might appreciate it. They like technical stuff.

I’m just starting to collect tools for woodworking - it’s going to be a looong process with the state of my 25 years of clutter in the garage. An elderly brother at church gave me a box of ancient tools from his grandfather with various moulding tools, round planers, hollow planers, rabbet tools, and more. Also picked up some more “modern” box planes at an auction.

Just trying to clean them up right now. Some may be beyond restorability or being able to use. It’s very enjoyable right now - I’ve been reading a lot about hand tools these last few months.

Some of those tools reminds me what Roy Underhill would use on PBS! 9 times out of 10 he would have a band-aid on his finger lol. Nice pieces that was gifted to you!
@bonamoleonard nice little set-up Leonard! And your tasks completed using what you have at hand. I like that little welding table with the slots for clamps too! Mine is cluttered at the moment but l did finish a fence to dress/sharpen my mower blades evenly.

Nice tools. Preserving heritage and history and a real life connection to the past. :us_outlying_islands:

Something lost on this current generation, many whom are hell bent on erasing, rewriting and destruction of anything that isn’t throw away or offends their feelings.

The box given me has maybe 20 more for various moulding, dados, tongue & groove, and others. Got to figure out how to sharpen some of the various shapes! Some have pieces missing that i might have a friend machine for me if it can be figured out. Was able to get a blade for the old Sargent no. 106 block plane on ebay.

These are the before

This is the dunk…I quickly realized I needed more vinegar lol

Brother I’m liking that piece…can’t wait until get to see after it comes out! Working on mine too. Got the tail piece and broken pins out. Vertical and horizontal soak. Ran a air hammer just to help impact. Got a 13" heavy pin to help in a push at my friend’s shop with his press.

What my pan looked like on the bottom.

I didnt take any pictures sadly BUT…I am amazed at how effective white vinegar and table salt is at removing rust and breaking loose frozen parts. Because of the size of the vise, its in a 35 gallon trash can with 8 gallons of white vinegar and 2 pounds of Morton table salt. The “water line” is at like 2/3 the way up the vise. I figured I would just flip it every few days.

Before the long weekend is over, hopefully it will be done! I’ll take some pictures of it at the end. @19foxtrot do you use the leftover vineger/salt mix as a weed killer?

I did not…but you have others to clean so IMO yes! I was done smelling vinegar in my shop and happy with the results.

Weed killer hail never thought of that…good combination to do the task

Its been awhile but if memory serves correct…white vingar, salt and dish detergent like dawn can sterlize the ground. So lets say you have a fence line that you don’t want to weedeat anymore. Good news! Spray that concoction along the fence line and BAM! No more weeds! Also, no more grass or any liveable vegetation. It will be unforgiving.

Dawn acts like a surfactant too!

LOL. I used that concoction before. I used to call it “Will Kill” after the guy on Forged in Fire. The Dawn broke down any oils.

What would the mixing ratio be? Would water be used with or not?

Its been over a decade since I’ve used it. I believe if you’re using a one gallon sprayer, you can use this ratio:

2 quarts of vinegar (white vinegar)
4 cups of salt (Epsom Salt works better but does not go through sprayer as well)
1/2 cup of dish detergent (I use Dawn)

If you use epsom salt, a spray bottle may work better. You just need the salt to dissolve enough to get through the nozzle orfice.

I may or may not have seen this mixture being used in a senior prank on an opposing schools baseball field but it was in water balloons. It sterilzed the ground to where they had to dig the earth up and lay sod down.

Got the outer jaw to push out today…easy push using a friend’s press and his help! Keyway stamp says 4-88 Apr 1988. Soaking the cap screws and jaws now. Plan to remove the jaws and clean them up.

With everything going on with my wife I kind of forgot about the vise in the vinegar solution. It’s been on there for quite some time and a foam started rising on the top.

You can see where I had flipped it in the solution one time but a light surface that appeared on that end. After some manipulating, I finally broke it free and it turns again! This boat anchor will soon be a working tool again! I rinsed the vinegar/salt solution off and it will be getting a lube bath soon to help with rust prevention and lubrication til I can get back to it.

I didn’t take any pics of it since my hands were black and orange BUT I did pour all that mix in 1 gallon jugs to attempt that weed killer/ ground sterilizer. I will probably spray it tomorrow so in a few weeks we should have a definite answer to if it works.
