JAKL Bullpup (Olcan) chassis. IS this gonna happen? No info = about to roll my own

Appearing in the 2024 & 2024 ShotShow displays, it was in the poll, but presented as a “happening” thing. There was mention that it would be for Gen1 (the current) JAKL, and down to the 8.5 uppers. Then nothing. I am convinced that the JAKL upper is the best basis for this setup, but with no info, I am weighing between the three primary bullpup chassis alternatives currently out there. They all have their issues & advantages, but all kludge a separate lower into the works. The Olcan apppears to be the “right” way to do all this, but… tumbleweeds and crickets. Does anyone know anything?

It was a concept that they hope to bring to the market eventually. Since SHOT they have brought:

Multiple New Sabre Guns
Multiple JAKL models
Rock 5.7 compact
Updates on the shotgun, x57, etc.

It takes time to bring everything to the market.

I know, and very admirable. I love my 8.5 300blk JAKL & am very sold on the JAKL uppers. But there is a lot of activity in bullpup chassis. I very much want one, & have a 16" JAKL upper in my shopping cart (going on SOME bullpup chassis), and I am holding off not knowing what is going on. If they are not going to do it in next year, it would be nice to know. A little info now and then would go a long way. It seems a little wrong to go full dark after all but promising it. If they don’t, that is fine, but please say so. I think that is reasonable. Reasonable is good.

PSA has never given hard deadlines. Over the past few months they have moved from an “heres an update” video model to “release date confirmed”. I dont know why but i suspect it is because of all the folks that still whine about the mp5.

Understandable. Then again, no one was asking for a deadline.

I’m not big on bullpups but at least want to see the concept. Is there a pic of it, because I don’t remember it at all.

Not asking for a hard dead line…but you are asking for a dead line which they don’t do.

Top 5 from the Shot Show concept poll:

#1 - Sabre 11: Not Released, No Updates
#2 - Lancet 50: Not Released, No Updates
#3 - 570 Shotgun: Not Released, there might have been an update?
#4 - X9 PDW: Not Released, No Updates
#5 - Jakl 9: Did release but with a direct blow-back design.

So I’d imagine it’s going to take some time to get around to the bullpup lower especially when there are popular concept guns that are still un-released (Vuk, Emerge Bolt Action, X5.7).

Having heard nothing for almost two years, late last summer I bought the SURB kit (pretty awesome). With no news of ANY kind…. I would love to compare them to each other, but I likely do not need two bullpup chassis.

@BradE looks like the Olcan lower will be $499

olcan

that’s crazy didn’t even know about this, just takes the pre existing jakl upper?

so like this would work??

https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-jakl-14-5-rifle-length-upper-assembly-300-aac-nitride-w-knurled-ch-bcg-asr-fde.html

and be legal?

Takes the 5.56 and 300 black out uppers except for the short 8.5’’ 300 upper if I heard correctly.

Yes since the muzzle is pinned it’s 16’’ not a SBR.

I have a 13.7 pinned with a keymo muzzle = 16’'.

Now if you go with 10.5’’ that’ll be some government paperwork.

This might be the first time I try to get the initial release of something PSA, lol.

I have a 16" upper sitting around and just never put the money into getting a lower for it with one of the other bullpup conversions out there (the SARB-15 looked really nice though!).

Im glad that PSA decided to work on this so soon, since it didnt make the top 3 or even top 5 I think in this year’s poll. It was one of the ones that I voted for, and was looking forward to when it eventually released.
This is a wonderful Christmas surprise from PSA.

I am really torn. Having the SARB makes it hard to justify. The SARB has a far better mag release setup, but this is (I assume, anodized finish) made of aluminum. I noticed they backed off supporting the 8.5 300blk (they once said it would), and that kinda kills one of my applications.

I voted for it as well. I cannot see how this is not a knock-out hit. JAKLs are proven very good, the retail bullpup world kinda sucks, match made in heaven. I have been yakking it up about this for two years now, haunting anything remotely related on YT with comments web links to OLCAN info. No news, crickets, I get the SARB. It has been FANTASTIC, very well thought-out. But weeks after completion (and days after receiving another JAKL upper just for it), comes this announcement. Dude….

I was curious what was being discussed about the Olcan announcement outside of the forums, so I poked around other places and I just kinda have to laugh at the way some were reacting.

I saw a few comments remarking about the price of the complete lower, saying $500 was way too much.

But looking at context, outside of a complete PSA lower, you’re looking at anywhere between 250-700 dollars for one at least. There’s also the fact that the existing conversion kits are around the same price range. 350-500, and you have to have or buy an AR lower and partially build it out, which makes that method even more expensive compared to the Olcan.

So, $500 feels pretty fair to me, since you only have to attach a Jakl upper once you have one in hand.
