JAKL Charging handle "play"

How much play in the charging handle is normal? I know its going to have a little play since it fits in the slots, but mine seems excessive.

perfectly normal to have play.

If it’s so much it binds when moving that would be an issue. Otherwise, doesn’t really matter. I have one that moves around a bunch and seems to work fine.

Update on this - having multiple issues with my JAKL and i’m really disappointed in the product. When i pull the charging handle back (index finger on top), the slightest downward pressure binds the sled and it gets stuck. I have to push the handle down for it to go back into battery.

I let a friend shoot the JAKL and the very first time he pulled the handle back it jammed.

When i add the handle to the right side, it doesnt bind. I put as much downward pressure as i can and try t oreplicate the problem and i cant. It only happens on the left side.

This is the response from customer services this morning:

“We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your PSA product. When operating the JAKL charging handle, it is always recommended to only pull straight back to operate it. Any pressure downwards can cause the sled to want to bind in the sled channel of the upper.”

Completely unacceptable. If this is the case, its a flawed product and i wouldnt recommend to anyone. I’m hoping i have a lemon and PSA will replace.

I posted another thread where the gas system doesnt seem to be working properly. I don’t know if the issues are related.

This is my first issue/customer service interaction with PSA. I’ve ordered (dont tell my wife) close to $5k worth of stuff from them over the last 5 years. I don’t believe im being unreasonable.

First video is the handle installed on the right side and me doing my best to replicate the binding. It did not bind no matter how hard i tried. Second video is the charging handle installed on the left side and showing how easy it is to bind.

have you lubed the sled? I use lithium grease on mine and no issues.

Yes, lubed throughout the sled.

If you feel it is an issue then send it back and CS will make it right. Also, just a heads up. …the whole “i’ve spent XXX over XXX years” doesn’t have anything to do with how you are treated. PSA will gladly repair/fix any firearm that they have made if something is indeed wrong with it. They have a lifetime warranty on all their stuff, and that warranty will even transfer to a different buyer.

First off, you’re correct it definitely shouldn’t do that. I’m disappointed to hear that customer service response, too. Assuming basic maintenance, etc., you really shouldn’t have to break it in for any significant amount of time.

Is it possible to see where on the sled or inside the upper where it is wearing? If it sticks, it’s definitely going to leave wear marks someplace.

Customer service sent over a request for RMA - they suspect is a bur. I think i screwed up by selecting “problem with product” and my write up may have indicated i didnt know what i was doing… like trying to pull down to open the action.

But its going back and ill update with the resolution.

As far as the $x comment - that was intended to explain that i’m reasonable and i dont just return everything.

Completely understand on the $X comment. I see it used on a variety of gun boards in a manner such as “I’m important” arrogance. Not saying you are doing that at all, just pointing that it comes across that way often.

Totally understand that. I probably jumped the gun on this and hopefully it comes back good as new. I have the entire winter to go shooting and I’m hoping to really enjoy shooting this JAKL.

Keep in mind that parts will “wear in” as they do on all firearms

I’ve spent $18.00 with PSA they were still very responsive with the last time I had to engage CS.

UPDATE

I sent my JAKL back last week. I dropped it off at UPS on Wednesday, got an email that PSA received it on Friday. I got an email today that it was evaluated and “both the sled and charging handle were out of spec, replaced with in spec parts”

So a 7 day turn around with a holiday on Monday. Can’t beat that! Hopefully when i get it back it operates as intended.

I just want to close the loop on this. Got the JAKL back and its good as new. The charging sled was replaced and now it operates 1000% better. It operates as i would expect and im satisfied with the operation of the JAKL. I would go so far as to say i will probably add a 556 upper if they have a decent black friday sale. I’m going to the range tomorrow to shoot and will run some ammo through with my suppressor.

Bottom line - dont let my initial write up deter you from purchasing a JAKL. I got a bad charging sled and PSA made it right. If you are experiencing the issues that I’m having - send it to PSA.

Having the exact same issue with a newly purchased Jakl 300 BO pistol. Kinda bummed  I’m reaching out to the company to see if they will help.

It’s never been fired, and the first thing I did when I got home was disassemble and clean/lube it.

The charging handle can been halfway removed while the firearm is fully assembled just by pulling. It’s got so much play it binds up when trying to cycle the action unless you align the charging handle perfectly.
