I just shot my new.308 pa 10 today and I found that the bolt would not strip rounds from the magpul that came with the rifle. I tried a couple of other magpuls (20 round) that I had purchased and had the same issue. Interestingly a pro mag steel unit worked just fine. Any fixes for this issue?
How do they fit in the magwell?
They lock up well and drop free with no issues.
The problem is magpul designed a mag for one size fits all, but there is no standard with ar10s.
If you look at the back of the mag, you will see a little shelf that impacts with the magwell. It is enough to cause the mag to not seat properly. Sand the shelf down even with the rib, or use a pocketknife and shave a little off.

I see the area you are talking about. I’ll give that fix a try. Unfortunately it will probably be a week before I can try it out to see if it worked. Thanks for the suggestion…
Post an update after you have a chance to implement the fix. Even if it doesn’t work, it may help someone else in the future after this has been archived by time. Can’t count how many times during my sten build I found a solution in some arfcom thread that hasn’t been posted to in over a decade.
Yeah, I’ll do that. It would seem that PSA would not include the p-mag with their rifle if this was a common issue. I tried multiple p-mags and they all did the same thing so it is surely a problem with the rifle. It appears that PSA might have cranked out a lemon this time. Lucky me… I might have to replace all of those not so cheap p-mags with the steel pro-mag units.
Its not PSA, its the mags. There are multiple ar10 manufacturers that have the same problem. You cant take a non-standard platform like the ar10 and make it work. That ridge on the back is an issue. The magpul drum has the same ridge also, and also has to be removed.
Here is my thread about the d50 drum.
Have you tried changing their Kibble?
Has there been update on this issue? Thread seems a bit old. Received my PA-10 308 Gen3 that came with one (20) Rd PMag. This is too long for bench rest shooting but I also have two (10) rd PMags, all Gen3. I’ve tried the (10) and the (20) and exact same issue. I lock the bolt back, tap mag to make sure all rounds seated to rear, insert mag and then drop bolt. Rarely does the rifle load a round.
Welcome to the forum @DIYguyMN ![]()
See my post a few up from yours. Its a mag issue, not a gun issue. The problem is the lack of a standard with AR10s.
Based on previous post the solution to the failure to feed is sanding the lip on the PMag. Just spent time in my shop with the AR-10 locked in the bench vise and doing major inspection. Have photos of what I found but don’t see an option for including the photos. Short version, I did find a couple indents in the PMag where it was hitting the mag well. Took the Dremmel to the mag and created clearance at these points plus sanding the lip. Confirm no contact even when pushed all the way in. Loaded up several dummy rounds, no primmer, no powder. Loaded the modified mag with three rounds and tested if it would extract and load the rounds. Nope. Same as before. Lock bolt back, insert loaded mag, drop the bolt, no round loaded.
Thank you. Have LOTS of PSA products so hope the forum is a good fit.
After you may a few more posts you will be able to post pics. Its a built in spam safeguard.
Reading this as I’m waiting for shift to start, plus getting the 308 ready for deer. I’ve got a few pmags, asc, and another brand I’m drawing a blank on at the moment. All give me fits for feeding, but I’ll look at the pmags tonight to see whachoo guys are talking about. Hexmags have worked 100% for me, benchrest shooting or rapid fire goober testing (for fun-ction of course
) so I ended up getting several, and never looked back.
