New AKV - firing pin frozen/stuck. Less than 100 rounds

This is my very first PSA firearm and it’s been a total fail so far. I sent off the warranty email thing to PSA and it’s been about 64 hours now and I haven’t back from them. How long does this process typically take?

Issue:

I fired less than 100 rounds through it of standard 115g Blazer ammo (brass) and after the first magazine (which did run perfectly) I started having the hammer click but the round would not go off. I’d eject the round and find no primer strike at all. I opened up the dust cover and could see that the firing pin was not protruding at the rear next to the hammer and it also was not protruding forward towards the round; it was just stuck inside the bolt. I would remove the magazine and rack the bolt a bunch of times and eventually the firing pin would “unstick” itself and I could fire off a few more rounds and then it would get stuck inside the bolt again. What’s going on here?

I have a regular ak47 that is absolutely bulletproof and goes bang every time. I got the AKV with the presumption that it would also be as reliable as the ak platform is known to be; was I mistaken?

What will PSA’s resolution be here? Send me a new bolt assembly. Will they want me to send in the pistol and wait a month to get it back?

Thanks for the help, and I’m trying my best to not grumble/complain too much but I’m not used to brand-new guns not functioning properly.

None of us know for sure what PSA would do. They may want the whole gun. It may be that the AK-V repair kit would solve your problem.

Sorry to hear that, Mine has been no problem at all. Give them a minute, they do stand behind their products. Hopefully someone on the Forum will take note and get back to you. Lifetime warranty means LIFETIME.

See any issues?

Other than being a little dirty…no.

So I am going to go out on a limb and assume that you cleaned and oiled the AK-V before you took it out and fired it the first time…
The only reason I can think of for the pin to stick with the above being true would be you punching out the primer and it getting sucked back into the firing pin channel causing it to bind. If that isn’t the case then send it back for warranty. It sucks but PSA stands behind their products and will get to the bottom of it.

Any thoughts on how the pin would get stuck in there?

The firing pin ended up getting stuck without any intrusion of any kind by me. It was firing fine and then it failed and that’s when I opened it to take look…

Idk. Dirt, unburnt powder? Pull it and clean it if you are able.

Does anyone know how long it takes for continuing communication with psa warranty via email? It took almost 3 days for my very first initial response to my claim and now it’s been 3 days and still no reply to my follow up email with them.

Am I stuck waiting 3 days between every communication with them?

Yes. It’s not a fast process. There is a long queue.

And you are on a weekend…

My larger concern at this point is what to do about the folding brace on my AK-V. That is if I had one.

I initiated a claim yesterday about 10 AM and had a reply waiting for me when I got in the office this morning. Not bad at all. Just make sure you provide them with as much information as possible to avoid dragging it out.

Geeze that’s nice. My experience has been tremendously slower…

I got my initial email response that my warranty claim was submitted: Mon, Jan 16, 6:40 PM
Then a real person emailed me for the first time: Thu, Jan 19, 12:34 PM
They responded to my email reply (which I sent back to them immediately): Tue, Jan 24, 10:56 AM

Now I am awaiting their next reply…

I havne tried steel in mine. All 147 gr brass.

It took almost 7 weeks for them to get to it once they received it, but they looked at the problem, determined they wanted to tear it apart and send it to engineering and issued a replacement, shipped it same day and it hit my FFL two days later.
PSA will do you right but on their own time schedule. It wasn’t a fast process until it was.
