New daggar, gold barrel, failure to eject

I have my first daggar and not too excited at the moment. First trip to shoot I had Failure to Eject every round I shot…5 of 5. I set it aside to troubleshoot later as I did not bring lube with me. I am hopeful that is all it is and I am heading to a range later today to find out. Aside from lube, I am also concerned about the gold barrel finish. I am leaning towards polishing but having not polished a standard barrel let alone a gold barrel before. I am concerned about the gold finish on the dagger barrels. Is it a bad idea to polish the gold barrel? I’ll update after I get back from the range.

what ammo are you using, is it reliable in another firearm?

did you buy it entirely pre assembled or did you assemble it yourself?

Are you worried about the friction of the finish or what? It shouldn’t cause an issue if you lube it. And once the gun is settled in, should be alright even without. But the barrel is a point that needs lubrication on Browning Tilt Barrel designs. More towards the front where the muzzle sets in the slide.

For the malfunctions, I assume it was run dry hence the mention of lube? Lack of that combined with the Gen3 style ejector and it being new probably added up.

For the polishing, it’s likely to wear the finish off. I’ve polished several barrels before and the TiN ones always seem to wear pretty easily, while normal nitride or melonite/etc finishes are super durable. But for shooting, they are all fine as long as the barrel is in spec and the coating is done properly.
What I would polish though are the internal trigger bits. Connector and trigger bar specifically. The contact points on them at least. Pre-break in your trigger without using ammo.

Lube and break it in.

Thanks for asking. I am using reloaded ammo that I trust. I fired a bunch to the ammo, all without issue in other pistols. I bought the frame and upper assembly separately. I have compact and full frame. Each frame gives same results. Behavior is different since yesterday. Then I was shooting with what i would call light to medium lube resulting in Failure to Eject (5 of 5). Today I fired with it “wet” and was able to eject but now it is experiencing Failure to Feed (5 of 5).

I am less concerned about the finish than friction. I will surrender to appearance for proper function. The slide was lubricated well yesterday during the FTE issues but I cannot confidently speak to the barrel lubrication. I would guess it was light but not certain. Today, during my FTF issue, slide and barrel are wet. Thanks for the advise on the trigger break in. I still have a more pressing problem to solve.

I wish it were that simple. For most, I bet that is all that is needed. My issue seems to be something more however.

just send it back

i run mine pretty dry, just a light coat of clp and they are really smooth. i started with a couple pre assembled and knew what to expect from there when buying parts separately. i would like to say just send the upper or lower back but idk what’s wrong so probably both, personally i would send it assembled and see if they send it back fully functional

Try factory ammo. You may trust a reload, but its always good to use factory known ammo that is built to work rather than customized.
