Yeah, when it comes to guns I’m just a stick in tha mud…

I have a couple old school platforms I really love so maybe not so much a stick in the mud.

Serious answer?

Buy a Gen 5 Glock 19 or 47, a ton of ammo, and sign up for some training. That will do far, far more than buying the new hotness. Zev is not significantly (enough) better than a stock Glock gen 5 to be worth the money.

Is there a big difference between a G19 gen3 and G19 gen5? I have a weird G25 which is .380 G19 gen3. LOL too many G’s.

I’ve considered getting a G45C MOS from GlockStore (they do the Glock factory C-cuts) & going from there. But the truth is, I already EDC a Shadow Systems MR920P, which I LOVE & has been flawless through 6K rounds. The Zev & SS frames both lack that “hump” at the bottom of the grip, which to me, feels far more natural.

I try to go to the range every week & put 200-300 rounds through my EDC. I’ve taken as many defensive pistol, AR, & trauma treatment classes as I can afford. I’ll never stop training. But this is a “once in a lifetime” chance to get WHATEVER the hell I want, as long as it’s under $5K (yes, people DO win on those scratch-off lottery tickets), so I’d like to get something as nice as possible yet still conducive to EDC. Thankfully, I still have plenty of time to decide.

Ignore my vouch for CZ if any of y’all care a lot about a companies politics/morals.

I personally am not too crazy about boycotting companies, and I’d still get another CZ if there was a good price (can’t say the same for SIG). But there’s so many good handgun options now to where if I can avoid a company (with no compromises on features, reliability, or price) then I will.

(Context for CZ, Sig needs no context at this point. )

Internally, yes.
Gen 3 is in the public domain now, copyright has expired, so you’ll see a lot of Gen 3 clones (like the Dagger, which I do like). The Gen 5 uses a different recoil spring which does improve things. I won’t say it’s wildly better but it is better than Gen 3.

Hang on to that G25. I really wish I owned one…

Do what you want man, it’s your money.

If you have a Shadow Systems and it works for you, stick with it. One thing I regret at my age is buying a lot of guns instead of focusing on one or two known-good models.

Seriously, for 99.9% of the population, a high end pistol is not going to help them shoot better. Ammo and training will.

If you are into competition shoots, different rules apply I suppose.

I kinda learned the opposite way. My 1st EDC was a PDP Pro Compact, & it was a DISASTER. Even after classes, endless pointers, 300 rounds a week for 3 months & a full-size PMM comp, & it was still just too much for me. Not to mention the full inch & a half the comp added, turning my EDC into a snappy range gun. I sold it & bought what my gut told me I should’ve bought in the 1st place, the MR920P. Since having it, I’ve been able to really focus more on firming up my grip because I’m not concerned about wresting the gun. Oddly enough, a week ago, after I got done shooting my EDC at the range, I rented a PDP-F Pro 4-inch. And I found myself asking if it was actually a PDP., I shot it so well & enjoyed it as much as I did (& GOD I missed that trigger). So I’m guessing A) my grip & fundamentals HAVE gotten better & B) maybe the standard size PDP was just too big/wrong for my hands. It DOES happen.

Don’t forget the CZ Klönz:

New, not-yet-released SAR 7/24. There’s Rumours of a Ported/Comped version possibly…

Flared Magwells and big Comps/Ports are really only the most useful on Race Guns, to the Competitor. Nobody is seriously carrying a $1300 Shadow 2, or a $3500 Staccato around for personal defense.

To be fair to CZ, Colt would volunteer for that “Duty” even if they weren’t owned by them. Much like Ruger, that company has always been pragmatic about the Right to Bear Arms.

Says who? You? Do you know how many people EDC Staccatos now? How many departments are adopting them? Sure, they’ll NEVER be as reliable or durable as a striker-rig. But I think you’re wrong about what people will carry. I EDC an MR920P. It was $950 when I got it. People pay $1100-$1200 to get the Sig 365 AXG Legion & that thing sells like crazy.

Comps & ports on “race guns” is a misnomer. With shorter comps like Radian, PMM JTTC Micro, Icarus & V or C porting, all has become conducive to EDC. It’s all about what you like & what you, personally think is worth it.

I’m not going to sit here and argue with you, but I doubt you know how many people EDC Staccatos than I do either.

I also feel pretty confident in saying that, a fraction of the ones sitting in safes are flopping around on the hips of civilians, and a fraction of THOSE are in the holsters of police. Of all the things your local Department is going to regularly spend money on, a $2000+ Pistol is not it.

Not when Glock will sell them 5 or 6 for that same amount.

Dude, I know we hijacked and trampled on your thread. Sorry.

Sometimes we all agree, sometimes we all go into a feeding frenzy like sharks when someone bleeds in the water.

We try not to be like Barfcom here. Sometimes however we get out of hand and the mods have to start cat hearding…

My kinda style, is basic, like Dodge vs Maserati.
I would love to have the money to afford one. Not that that I would buy one, just wish I had the money. :money_mouth_face:

Carry on, and don’t mind us trolls under the bridge…

I agree wholeheartedly. The simple fact is, I AM ACTUALLY 1 of those people who proves that you CAN actually win more than $1K on a lottery scratch-off ticket. Between that & what I’ve saved up in my “Gun Fund” for the last year & a half, I have $5K. So I’m of many different mindsets.

Get an XMacro & upgrade my AR? Go balls to the wall on a 2011 like a Jacob Grey Hex or Cosaint Dera? Or get an Alpha Foxtrot Romulus, send it to DSC Gunworks & have them do their upgrade package, get a Prodigy & send it to Southwest Precision & have them do the same. Get a GP Arms Patriot, made here in TN, with Bul/Staccato quality & Bul price. Or, for striker-fired, Zev Hypercomp with Icarus grip or Floyd’s ported Echelon 4.0c in an Icarus grip with magwell.

The thing is, no matter the setup/what I decide on & what it costs (as long as it’s within my budget) ALL of those choices are worth it to me simply because I love guns. And I’d EDC ANY of them (obviously not my rifle…yet ).

Glad you won lottery. Too bad it wasn’t 1,000,000 or more. You’d be set. Can’t win if you don’t play…

Just take it easy. I knew a close friend who was retired Navy, retired Post Office, then drew his SS , had no wife, kids but spent $80-$100 a day for 30 years on scratch offs. Had he saved all that $$ he would not have had to play the lottery.

Thanks for that info.. i was unaware. i always had thought it odd he was in that little strip mall near fedex… just didnt seem like a good place for him.

odd.. the specific size of the 26x seems absolutely perfect to me as probably the successor to most 9mm glock models.. and i primarily shoot for fun like the type to carry something crazy just for kicks finding it far more inconvenient than i imagined.. wonder how john wick sits down every time i watch that movie lol is he grabbing his stomach because he was just stabbed or because that 34 or 2011 is jamming him in the gut..
