Official PSA AR-9 Photo Thread:

Sorry…PSA 9mm pistol build kit…
It’s late. Long day. I mean it fires fine and accuracy seems fine. Really haven’t fired enough to make a solid judgement but initial reaction is that it has more pop than expected

The buffer that comes in the pistol kits is only a 5.4 oz buffer. You might want to consider trying something closer to 9 oz and look for one that has deadblow weights in it? That 5.4 oz buffer is solid, no moving weights. In my experience, it is too short with a 9mm bolt. With that buffer, if I pull the bolt all the way back until it bottoms out in the buffer tube, I had a gap from the bolt face to the bolt catch of about a half inch. I went with an extended buffer weight and got that gap down to about 3/16”.
If you haven’t already seen them, and you really want to go down a rabbit hole, there’s a YouTube channel called blowback9 that goes into great detail on 9mm blowback setups. He also maintains a website under the same name.

I do have a 9mm buffer…it is longer…I was unclear about the kit i referred to - it was a 9mm complete pistol UPPER with a lower parts kit - specific to 9mm pistol build (minus the lower). But yes it is a 9mm buffer. It is longer and heavier. I haven’t weighed it, but its the one that PSA sells for their 9mm AR products
SO… I have Armaspec silent recoil spring in couple of my other AR builds…one is a standard AR15, one is .300 BO, and the first i bought went into AR 7.62x39 build. I love this Armaspec product. It works really well. They make them in several weights, etc.
Anyway, I just bought one (designed for 9mm) for my new AR9 build, and didn’t realize, but i can’t use it. This 9mm bolt carrier is solid (not hollow up the middle of the bolt carrier) and the way the Armaspec functions…it has a solid rod in the middle with the spring around it and the sliding weight on the outside…so the rod needs to be able to slide up the middle of the bolt carrier as it moves backward into the buffer tube. I didn’t really think about it until i put the Armaspec into the buffer tube and you cant pull the bolt back. Kind of bummed about that.
I assume PSA made the bolt carrier solid to add weight to it.
SO i only have experience with the PSA 9mm bolt/carrier/build. Does anyone else have a hollow bolt carrier on their 9? I assume so since Armaspec makes the product.

And thanks for the input and the info. I did some research/reading about the 9mm buffers before I started…previously had no idea the buffer was longer. I will venture down that rabbit hole one day when i have the time.

Figured this would be good to take to the family Thanksgiving shoot-a-round next week.
I changed out the Shockwave brace for the H&R brace today.

it’s all PSA except the buffer and magazine, runs very smooth and lrbho works.

normal ar15 lower with the buffer swapped to a 9mm buffer.

i also put in a leftover “stock ar9 trigger” from a dedicated 9mm receiver idk if it matters..

then a psa 9mm upper just the way it comes with just a little clp..

exomag 9mm magazines, the evolution of endomags, no assembly required it just works.

(choose the ejector model)

very nice.. i’d have no idea its an aR9 without investigating closer, due to the magazine. hows she shoot?

yours is like mine with a 16” barrel. i dont see many of those longer barreled pcs usually folks have made or bought the Pistol shorter barrel versions.

i love the 8” and 16”.. the 16” feels a little more natural imo..

this is my current pdw/plinkster.. bca lower, kak enhanced buffer, cmc trigger, psa upper 16”
