So far I have fired Fed AE, FN ss195, Fiocchi hyperperformance, and Speer gold dot without issue. I was glad to see AAC ammo become available but, with the first box I began to have problems. Failure to return to battery and failure to extract.
In checking the ammo in a second box I found that some rounds fit tightly in the chamber and don’t want to chamber completly. The chamber is clean and very smooth so either the chamber is slightly undersize or the AAC ammo is a bit oversize.
The ammo that chambers OK seems to be very accurate. Is anyone else having problems like this with the AAC ammo ?
@GuitarGuy probably has shot the most of it that I know of.
What’s the lot#?
I have ran probably 500 rounds through both my rocks and have a few issue with FTF from a full mag after 2-3 rounds they fun flawless.
Send the lot #, pics, and order # to @Josiah_PSA [email protected]
Funny I was getting ready to post about this almost exact problem and what I discovered so far. So here goes:
Back at end of February I ordered 3 boxes of AAC 5.7X28 V-Max and it sat around for a while as life happened. I finally went to the range a bit ago and tried it out. Using a Ruger-57, first five rounds were FTE. Unloaded, then ran 5 each AE & FN, had no problems. Tried 5 more rounds of AAC, 5 more FTE. Finished up, went home.
Next time, cleaned and lubed pistol, went to range. Tried 5 rounds of AAC out of different box, 5 FTE. Again, AE & FN ran no problems. Now getting miffed. Went home.
After a few days, decided to see if I could figure out what was going on. Disassembled pistol and placed a round of each brand in the chamber. all good. Then repeated with a spent casing from each. AE & FN dropped right in, AAC did not. It stuck about 3/4 of the way in. Now we’re geting somewhere!
After a bit of comparing, I found out the AAC case had a slight lip on the outside of the opening where the other two did not. I ran my thumbnail across the case neck on an unfired round an the lip is present, but on the AE & FN it is not. So I am assuming that the slight lip is small enough to let it chamber but expands enough to catch and not allow the ejector pull it out. So now I have to figure out how to safelyget rid of that lip.
Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully help somebody else out.
@Lurkin you should probably do the same as suggested above and send the lot and order # with pictures to @Josiah_PSA

Thanks, will do
I emailed Josiah at PSA and received a very quick response and they are replacing all of the remaining ammo (about 200 rds) with fresh ammo. Hopefully it won’t have the same issues. Great customer service!
I also sent an email and the remainder of mine is also getting replaced! I’ve seen lots of comments from people talking about how great it runs so I figured mine was a fluke, stuff happens sometimes. Customer service rocks!
in no way is this comment to bad mouth AAC 5.7x28 ammo or any ammo.
anyone can have a problem.
when i bought my Rock frame i bought one box of AAC ammo for it. i am a huge reloader. im not really big i just collect any brass and reload a lot of sizes.
having none i ordered dies and stuff to get started.
i only fired half of the PSA box. if anything one of the first rds didnt feed and another i am pretty sure i bumped the mag relese and one didnt feed. big deal, it is new.
i ordered some primed brass from CANADIA land back around the 2000K and also SS109 projectiles. the way the military ammo manufacturers work is strange but they called it an overrun.
so back to now, i found primed nickel “black” coated 5.7x28 brass for sale. the case is marked AAC. it was suggested i size them but i never did the 556 from Canadia.
i loaded some and they are running great. different bullets, 2 different powder loads, all good.
so. i wonder if AAC had a problem or a few and dumped a batch or 2 of problematic ammo. crap happens. im not upset about it. i will work it out, well i have actually but its after being fired i noticed trouble.
3 cases out of around 700 had an oversized neck. could be why they said size them.
2 cases had a bullet inside the new “empty” case. one was a 40 grain red polymer tip. the other, strangely, had a, no kidding, 55 gr 556 FMJ, upside-down, with a primer pim sized bump in the lead. i promise, they were not my projectiles. ( edit, both had powder come out when was removing the bullets.)
i also noticed one primed, not sized by me case that would only slide part way into my barrel after i loaded it.
so no i am not having those problems with AAC ammo.
i have noticed that as with reloading any ammo lots of care must be taken.
what i did with what i was sold is working i just want it to work after its fired and i set out to load it again.
Midway did not have a chamber gauge and i just thought of trying Brownells.
where else might have one?
if anyone wants to know where i bought the brass i will tell you IF it will not be a problem for the forum or PSA.
Interesting ![]()
PSA has never sold coated nickle 5.7 brass or any 5.7 brass to my knowledge. What does the brass actually say on them? Is the brass itself marked AAC or just the box you got it in? Also, if someone is misrepresenting AAC then yes, PSA will want to know. PSA is the sole retailer of AAC ammo.
this is the same BRASS as the AAC box of 50 i bought at PSA greenville with the bullets pulled. i just happened to buy 40 gr FMJ as one bullet to load. just today this place started advertising pulled 40 gr conical projectiles. i dont think any wrong doing is happening. i would say AAC loaded some and for some reason had them torn down and sold. they say AAC and the cal 5.7x28 on the base. i am in the tedious process for me to put pics on here.
AAC does NOT sell 5.7 brass and i confirmed that today with PSA. Furthermore, PSA is the SOLE retailer for AAC ammo. If you purchased it elsewhere as brass, you bought once fired brass and possibly once fired reloaded.
Name the place, they want to know.

this is only one pic. the next has more.
that is the most work i have done for a pic. once i got it to work i saw the above post by guitar guy.
i guess it could be once fired. the company is “American Reloading.”

can you find a case length gage? none at Midway or Brownells.
for these little 5.7x28?
There is no telling what that brass has been through prior to you buying it. It did not come from the AAC factory that way.
Sheridan Engineering makes very fine gauges.
